Cool game, but needs some work
I just get "game.exe has stopped working" :(
Cool concept but I couldnt jump over the first spike? was I missing something? Character just couldnt jump high enough. Tried holding double tapping etc...
I don't know I can can do something other than dieing in that spikes :/ but it's a nice engine with the light system and stuff for being done from scratch. Did you use SDL?
You've made better platforming controls than a lot of what I've tried so far. Has potential. ^_^
I disagree slightly with your spike collision on the sides. :p
Well done writing the engine from scratch. Not a bad start!
The velocity change on changing direction is nice and snappy, without being instant. Feels right.
Could do with zooming out a bit.
The graphics and sound was great. The concept seemed fun, but the jump height seemed to randomly change and I wasn't able to get past the second campfire. Overall great job.
I win!
I think you reaaally nailed the controls for this game. Best feeling platformer I've played this game. The way the character jumps, the acceleration, the height, velocity.... mmmm All feels good. Also, when you let go of the direction keys in mid-air it feels like there a very satisfying "dampening" of horizontal velocity, followed by falling straight down. So good :yum:
However, the platforms were shrouded in darkness! The idea of carrying around a light and needing to move fast before it dies is interesting, but I'm not sure if it's pulled off here. I would have loved to do more platforming where I could clearly see the platforms!
Overall, I think this game feels great, and looks really nice. Would love to play a longer and more polished version!
Interesting concept. Fun and challenging game. The great fact that you made the engine and stuff. The game needs some polishing of course, but it is still great. I enjoyed playing it. Nice job!
The game isn't very exciting, I bet you know that, but I'm impressed that you made it in C++ ^^ Congratulations guys ! The concept could be more exploited also. In the present case, it's just a chronometer, and forces the player to make angel jumps in the darks.
Cool graphics and music. Side to side movement works nice, but for the jump that was very hard to get. That double jump! I don't know how i was able to do it. Nice game.
Hi!, i really liked the concept of your game the "keep the flame alive", its really cool, but it need some work, for example, just running by the flame fills your lamp, but theres is an animation, that really dont make any sense if the player doesn't stop to see it, maybe you can disable the control for a few seconds until the lamp is filled. Also, the music doesnt dont fit that well for the mood of the game, its kinda bloody and the music is very happy. In graphics is well done, obviously need work like all other games in the jam but keep it goin! the concept is cool :)
@chance-slaughter, @piturnah, @jcx64 You need the Google Drive version, which has a fix for high-fps players.
@jcx64 We did not use SDL, mostly because it (iirc) exclusively uses software rendering.
