A cute game! Like that you show the baby even if I'm far away. Wish more seeds generated, but overall a solid game with nice graphics and sound!
Can't seem to restart after failing. Also, how do you feed the firebaby?
Amazing, lots of fun, I just wish I could use this axe on that stupid annoying little fire baby
@mcprog it should automatically go back to the title screen if you lose, after a bit. Maybe a little too long? But ya, you feed the baby by chopping down trees (space bar), collecting the wood that falls from the tree (walking over it) and dropping it onto him (c). Let me know if you have any more questions! :)
This was a very enjoyable game; it's fairly simple on a mechanical level, but things like the flame's cute animation developing over time keeps you engaged for a long time. It was interesting to try to manage things as the initial forest started to get cleared out, particularly with the increasing difficulty of navigating your way back to the flame (I found myself wishing I had some sort of pointer to them, but in retrospect it feels like that would have taken away some of the challenge towards the end of the game). I do wonder what the level indicator was for; I believe that I cleared out all of the trees on the map, but only after the flame died did I realize that I was holding on to one extra seed, so I don't know if that's somehow involved.
i don't like how easy it is to clip, but overall i loved the game! I love that you incorporated your nephew, i loved watching the fire grow, and it was satisfying to feed it. was a little confusing what the objective was, i thought it was just a time length at first, only later i realized that the fire could grow into different stages. but still pretty good!
Thank you all for the nice comments!
@synystercola the seeds are completely random, with a 1:5 chance of spawning, but it definitely seems like some rounds more spawn than others.
@huddybuddygreatness I find him quite cute! :)
@shugor Yes, the lack of a pointer was intentional, to make it more difficult. But I think if I were to make a 2.0 I would add "stumps" where the trees were so you could theoretically memorize the layout of the trees relative to the fire. Unfortunately, I must have failed as a game designer to convey the purpose of the game, which is to keep feeding fire, as quick as possible, so it keeps increasing it's stage from baby, to kid, to teen, to adult, and finally to senior, then once you get him to the amount of "fuel" (one of the metrics in the top left corner) where he would transform again (which happens to be 90), he instead thanks you for giving him a long life, then after a bit of time, it shifts to the next level. So you see, by running out of wood, without getting him past senior, you effectively lose, and it's only a matter of time before the fire starves.
@ssh-randy as I mentioned to shugor, I must have failed to convey the objective in-game, so I'm sorry about that. Once you got the different stages though, hopefully it was clear the goal was to get him to the "final" stage?
Once again, thanks all for taking the time to play and comment on our game! :)
Great entry! The graphic look great and the soundtrack is quite nice! I think the UI could have been better though. It would also be nice if the camera was always kept centred on the player.
Overall it's a good game. Nicely done!
It fits the theme. Good job!
I really like your take on the theme! and I loved the sound effects!
A bit simple, but interesting concept! The graphics and audio are nice. The flames stages are quite cute. There's also a decent level of balance going on. Though it does seem the player can doom themselves if they don't plan a compact forest from the get go. The seed spawn rate can be harsh, which I imagine is up to chance.
The character movement felt a bit awkward. Also, I kept getting stuck on the trees. Removing the collision on the treetops could help a lot.
Otherwise though it's a fairly solid game.
Cool game! I did however walk into some weird colliders that I felt were out of place when I tried to feed the babay. Sound was interesting, I liked it!!
