Game works now, it's an interesting idea. I sacrificed two villagers at the start :smiling_imp: and I was unstoppable for quite some time. Those little jumping enemies are a pain to deal with  You did good!

tornoz 2018-12-03 12:06

I died pretty quickly at the beginning and when i restarted the enemies didn't do any damage to me, which made the game pretty easy :D Also I went to the right in the village and fell in a bottomless pit :/ Nice little game otherwise

seed42 2018-12-03 12:18

the controls feel kinda strange (char reacts to slow to input)

and i also fell down the bottomless pit at the right edge of town

There should be level bounds, also it was weird to go left through the portal to defend the wall. Also, since villagers seem to replenish pretty quickly I didn't really feel like I was sacrificing anything. Also, as stated by @tornoz if you restart you become invulnerable. I enjoyed the music and sound effects. Would have been nice to have some particles for the kills. There is an interesting concept here and with the right story I could see a shaman absorbing the personalities of others to gain their abilities.

Nice work!

The gameplay and combat especially was very fun, but I didn't feel like there was anything I was giving up when I sacrificed a villager.

I accidentally jumped off the village platform and then I was falling eternally - guess some sacrifice has been made :) Well, you know it is not particularly excellent in any area, but still - you pushed your first project to publishing - took me more than ten years to finish and publish my first game (you can find it here). That is something. Key things I'd focus on - go even smaller, make more condensed experience, and also work on your presentation - even with stick figures some colours 101 and animation 101 would do one hell of a difference. But still, your idea behind the game is very good and your skills will only get better, so keep it up! Looking forward to your next jam entry! EDIT: Also I very much agree with dk5000p.

Congrats on finishing your game! I also ran off the platform, went in search of enemies and didn't see but one.

callavicka 2018-12-05 21:21

Grats on finishing! As for the game itself there are a lot of bugs (for instance falling off the screen). I also don't feel like I'm sacrificing anything as the villagers just respawn. Also it was hard keeping track of where the enemies would spawn. However, the core gameplay was actually fun and I think there is a good game here, it just needs a lot of polish and bug fixing. Good job nonetheless!

Thanks for all the great comments guys! At first i thought, i'll just create the core game on the first day, and then do art/music/presentation on the second day. That didn't exactly was what happened though. Probably because it was my first ludum dare that i misjudged how much time everything took. It took way longer to program the game and get all the bugs out, and i did all the art and music in the last 3 hours of the weekend. Which was from 12 am to 3 am local time . As soon as all your feedback came in i started to see the same flaws as you guys did. In those 2 days i didn't even consider that people would go left :confounded: But thanks to all you guys i learned a lot an am looking forward to the next ludum dare!
