Pretty fun game, the globe looks great. Good job!

Innovating idea! Finally I can play as an evil scientist who wants to blow the world up hahahaa :D Overall pretty fun game.

Love the concept it totally gave me back this "whoops should I click on that" feeling! Also a good way to learn geography :)

However looks like I had a bug:

Georgia lied to me. Both Turkey and Armenia had a bomb (I opened Turkey to be sure about it).

damienp 2018-04-25 20:54

@ZappedCow Damn, good catch! The connections between countries were generated automatically, and some connections are missing or inaccurate. Thanks, I fixed it now :)

Actually pretty surprised by how much more difficult this makes minesweeper, apparently my brain isn't quite set up to process this yet. Liking the geopolitical twist on this old classic though.

Minesweeper's always fun! The crazy borders made it more involved and kinda generally more fun! Nice job!

Maybe it's just me, but I didn't see a very direct relationship with the theme. That said, *very* fun to play! (And a solid implementation, I didn't spot any bug or glitch!)

damienp 2018-04-26 19:39

@hexagore Yeah, I was surprised as well! At first I thought that ~80 mines for the whole planet would be suitable for medium difficulty. Turns out it wasn't *at all*. 15 is already kind of hard...

@N8M8 Aww man thanks for the let's play, that means a lot! About the negativity of the whole *shit* thing, I meant to create a backstory about a nation's president saying derogatory comments about other countries. I didn't get around to doing it, but the name stuck.

@LMB Minesweeper has always felt like a war situation to me, and yet it is so abstract that after a short while playing, I forget that it's about explosive devices built and used to harm civilians. I wanted to reconcile the two distinct ideas that are the mechanics and the “backstory” of Minesweeper, if there is such a thing, that is a geopolitical one. The political overtone in the game ended being slight due to lack of time... I know of *at least* one bug. ;)

@Damienp Thanks for the explanation! Makes much more sense to me now

Edit: And by the way, while playing I actually had some feelings like those you described. "Gee, these are real countries with real peopl exploding". Things like that...

gastricsparrow 2018-04-27 02:38

Fantastic execution, I wonder how long it took to get all countries on the map (I assume all). There were some bugs but not too intrusive. Political statement aside, it's a great idea. Wonderful job!

damienp 2018-04-27 18:13

@GastricSparrow Thank you! As stated in the *Thanks* section, I used border data from [naturalearthdata](http://naturalearthdata.com/). So it took me a short while to understand the data format, and to write a script to generate connections between countries, but I didn't trace each border. Besides, this task is not only tedious, it requires geographical and political knowledge which I do not have, since some borders and even states are contested.

It's crazy how well minesweeper on an arbitrarily shaped graph like this works. Graphics were nice and simple but could've been flashier given the simplicity of the gameplay. I noticed it was hard to tell when some countries were bordering each other. I wish the shit countries joke was integrated better too.

jk5000 2018-04-29 18:10

The idea was interesting, and when I first understood how to play the game, it was pretty good.

diffty 2018-05-03 22:30

I love minesweeper and I love geography. What else can I add?

Clean graphics, good gameplay, solid entry. <3

Minesweep/10

masterkrepta 2018-05-05 00:38

Graphics were very impressive, and map rotation felt intuitive. could have used to music but 3d Minesweeper was fun

distorter 2018-05-06 16:05

This concept was pretty novel and well-implemented, congrats! As it turns out, it's much more difficult to play minesweeper in this way.

gulyasarni66 2018-05-06 19:41

Looks pretty good! Too bad i suck at minesweeper, so i couldn't really win it. Still a great entry!
