Cute aesthetics. Overall fun.
I think I've been playing this for a half an hour already, so I figured I'd actually rate it before I go back. This is really well done, very polished, great graphics, ponderous music (reminds me a bit of lavender town in pokemon), sound effects are well balanced. I'm totally engaged with it. I guess my main criticism would be that block puzzles + zelda adventure are not "incompatible themes", but I'm not complaining.
I wish I could give you more constructive feedback-- the puzzles are smart, and I haven't found anything unfair, boring, or particularly buggy yet. I'll try to come back with an edit after I actually beat it. Great work!
Edit: Only found more things to like. Just beat it with 12 gems. I found it interesting how you balanced action with puzzling with the follower enemies, that gave it a very Zelda-like feel. Only "bug" I found was pushing an ice block or pusher mob into an open door, it just seemed like it went all the way through an extra screen and the mob came back.
I loved the art work! I really want to play but first I need to find a Windows computer 🤔
This is some nicely done work. I loved the tidy design with those Octoroc Blocks! A decent want to get people thinking through their solutions rather than just brute forcing every possible move.
Feels good. Looks good. Sounds good. This is a great game.
The artwork and tiny rooms fit in so well! Reminds me of the oldskool-zelda games, the puzzles were mayby little hard at the start but after a while I got hang on them. Love it!
I'm impressed by the number of mechanics you were able to fit into this game. I'm also a big fan of the aesthetics. The pixel art was spot on, and the music was suitable (although a little repetitive). Overall, very well done!
One of my favourite entries so far! Amazing pixel art and beautiful music. Difficult, but very fun.
Fantastic game! I completed it and found all 15 gems (though the last 2 took a bit of exploration). The only issue I had was that it was a bit difficult to kill enemies, but that is only a minor gripe. Overall, I loved it, great job!
Big achievement for 48 hours. Really enjoyed the puzzles, they were pretty challenging but interesting enough that I played till the end.
@drprettypatty yeah so the game loads all the actors for a room, but the collision bounds extend out beyond the current room, so a monster could theoretically go explore the entire map. They get cleaned up when you solve a room or leave it, but I probably should have handled it better.
@jharler I spent most of the time programming the mechanics. The level was about 7 hours of design, while the music got only an hour, and it shows.
Very fun game! At first I thought this was a jam game but when I came back to rate I saw it was a compo game, very impressive! One of my favorites!
Super good game, a lot of quality content for a game jam. I finished it but found only 12 gems, I suppose some are hidden? Puzzle where you have to dodge enemies while pushing blocks are a bit frustrating, I pretty much had to try-and-error and repeat an exact sequence of move on some levels. Controls could be a bit better when you press several movement keys (like up and left), using the last pressed for example. A map with puzzle left would also be great, as I kept forgetting where I cleared rooms. Puzzles are good and I enjoyed solving them a lot, thank you for the game !
nice game, it was a good idea to mix blocks with zelda. I like the art as well, very consistent.
There's a lot of content here for such a short time. I'm impressed! I liked the visuals and the puzzle design was really well done.
That said, you asked for some constructive criticism, so here are some of the things I found:
-The framerate seemed kind of choppy, and it felt like it occasionally made me move two spaces instead of one, pushing a block into an inescapable corner
-The enemies weren't entirely predictable, as if by a glitch. Sometimes I could push a spike block into some pink guys and defeat them. Other times they got turned around. And yet other times they push it right back at me.
-I got bored and frustrated after only 7 gems and couldn't see any of the Zelda-inspired powerups you had to offer. I feel this should have been introduced earlier; after all, this is a game jam, and your idea should be front and center (IMO)
-For the most part, I really liked the music. It was very retro and suited the mood perfectly. Unfortunately, the instruments used started to grate on my ears really quickly.
-I didn't notice it while playing, but a green character can be hard to distinguish against a green background (Fun fact, this is why Spyro is purple!). Additionally, I found a lot of the enemies were hard to distinguish, since they all seemed to be pink/purple rectangles. I would consider repainting them, but I wouldn't know to what colour, since it all fits in the game really well as is.
Overall, I think you did a pretty good job. The amount of content you got done, especially how you tutorialized everything, is impressive considering how long you had to make it. However, there were some technical issues that made the game less fun than it could have been.
really nice game. i got 12 gems
Okay, you had me at "lizard adventurer" honestly. I don't have much to criticize here, except perhaps that your genre choices aren't too far apart. :) I personally could've used a little more handholding into the early mechanics -- I probably gave up sooner than I otherwise would have because it took a while to figure out what options I had. Super cute and interesting though, I'd love to see more like this.
