Ah, so turns out there's a problem with the connection library I wrote that only impacts the builds themselves :( Works fine in the editor. I'll have to debug it and post new versions when it works again
@incobalt Ok, I fixed the networking stuff! You can give it another try if you want!
Couple things I would suggest: 1. something went wrong with collision detection and I fell through the floor 2. Camera should pan ahead of you based on velocity so the enemies right in front of me aren't off screen
The Tinder idea was really cool, the intro text made me laugh and I enjoyed the tinder stereotypes, gameplay was decent.
That's a very incompatible combo and very ambitious to make a mobile and computer game. I didn't quite understand how the rules worked on `baedar`. I just got faces with comments and a yes/no button and no indication that there was any strategy to what to do. In `ULTRA BAE` I got past a couple of ladders until I lost the last of my life. Very interesting combo though. It would have been even cooler with swipes on the phone-app. And perhaps if the computer game was made a little more clearer, maybe top-down? With some tweaks I could see this as a quite fun coop game combo.
@Local Minimum yeah I definitely lost a bit of time learning new stuff during this jam. Which I don't regret, but meant that both part of the game aren't as fleshed out really, so yeah baeder is more of a weird weapon select screen at the mo. Maybe in the post-compo one I'll expand on that a little more
Took me a while to figure out what the baedar did but it's god damn brilliant. The in-game part was kinda weird though - really slow framerate on my computer. I wish the shooting and graphics had a bit more life to them too. The music is really cool but it doesn't really fit the monochrome style.
Ultimately a really cool idea, it never connected for me but I still played the game. Flipping the sprite to show which way you were facing when firing would have helped a lot, but I think you packed a lot in for a compo, nicely done.
I thought the Baedar bit was irrelevant until I read the comments here, I did wonder why my weapons seemed to change occasionally. The gameplay is fun, but I die way too often with only 2 health. Maybe that's just my lack of skill though?
I did like the graphical effects with the lights and shadows, but the game ran super jittery on my machine. It ran much smoother when I reduced the resolution, but then I couldn't read all the text :(.
@been Yeah sadly I couldn't figure out how to not apply the shader to the text in the compo timespan. And seeing as I have a small screen the shader is probably a lot more performant for me.
That's certainly an interesting two ideas to combine! Took me a moment to figure out how the baedar worked, though.
I have to agree with the other comments here -- the shooter part of the game ran really slow for me, and so it was very hard to play it. (I kept dying when accidentally slamming into spikes or enemies.)
I got knocked back through a wall and plunged into darkness, but I made it a ways I think. The Baedar was super unexpected. I'm so glad I charged my phone a little bit ago. I have a low-res screen, so while a little sluggish, the game was still perfectly playable.
The dating/tinder aspect was really funny! The game ran a bit sluggish locally. Great sound effects for shooting/attacking enemies.
The was stuck connecting to server but I wanted to help you get enough votes to get a rating so I voted based on the gif and description. ;)
@ProdigalSon: Haha, thanks I guess? FYI you can skip the connection if you want, by pressing esc!
Cool. I went back and ESC-ed the connection thing and got to play the game. Interesting usage of 2d/3d graphics/perspective. The music is fun and the lighting gives that sense of exploring the unknown. The movement was super fast for me and I kept trying to "click to shoot" when I know it is spacebar, lol.
