It’s fun to watch those poor dwellers. A few remarks/ideas:

- allow to zoom in/out to see the whole village in all its glory - arrows and WASD work even when the window does not have the focus - maybe change the colour of resource numbers (green when it’s growing, red when it’s decreasing) - where is the button to send rockets to hyperdimensional outer space?

Also please allow to destroy a land item. My village is disfigured forever because of a tiny mistake:

This is my village. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My village is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.

Hmm. I have tried to start the game but Bit Defender quarantined it...

legulysse 2017-12-10 16:17

@vfabien21 Oh, this is unexpected :/ Is it the .zip file that got quarantined, or the .exe itself ? The game is built on my own little game engine so there shouldn't be anything fishy inside, if you manage to get more information about why it blocked it I would be glad to hear about it !

machrom 2017-12-10 16:50

The game is fine, a lot of content and stuff to do.

However, please...please add the mechanic to destroy stuff(because of a few mistakes, my whole village was disfigured...). Also a bit of information about how much things cost?

It's a great game all in all! :)

gama-croma 2017-12-10 17:41

I enjoyed the game, maybe indeed add more info on greyed out buttons, like tooltips, with the required resources. I kept building buildings till I got seemingly out of nowhere access to build a new building.

I feel like it's usually unlikely that people can make a jam game that has me playing for more than about 10 minutes. Sheer curiosity and seeing the growth of my village managed to make that true for me on this one!

I liked the music and laid-back pacing. Fairly fun!

Some cc: * I didn't feel like I ran into any kind of tension or challenge in this game. Even with a long list of Gods, I had no trouble managing resources. I suppose that's what your note about disasters was about. * I also had trouble finding the theme of the game in here. I think the intention is that the more gods you're appealing to, the more difficult it is to keep them all happy? This entry would have worked just as well with only small houses and farms, fewer resources, or whatever else you could have cut from development time to get the main tension of the game in. That would be my biggest suggestion.

Thanks

Really Glad to see some city managing games on this LD! :D Really liked it a lot, the music is epic and the game has a lot of charm in it.

To improve it, I wish that the there were some more restrictions when creating new buildings and that you had to build paths between buildings in order to access them. But, with the time given for a Jam, I think this is awesome!

Keep up the great work! ;)

vfabien21 2017-12-10 19:30

@legulysse it is the exe wich has been blocked. It found something which looks like "Gen.Variant.razy.46018". This said, I have no clue how you can use that...

vfabien21 2017-12-10 19:30

(double post)

legulysse 2017-12-11 00:25

@vfabien21 thanks for the info, I will see if some scans will give results, but so far everything seems fine :/ (I checked both my project files and a downloaded copy of my submission)

legulysse 2017-12-11 00:35

@machrom @multiplexor @arden @gama-croma Thanks for your time and feedbacks, I'm glad that you liked the game !

Once I get some free time I intend to build a 1.1 patch with better feedbacks on resources, and a delete option.

As for the overall challenge, and about the theme, I intend to work on a 1.2 patch with more tweaks on the economy and the addition of some godly disasters like thunder strikes on the citizens if the Faith resource is too low, in order to finish the gameplay loop I originally intended for this entry o/

Nice game you have here. SUPER WELL DONE!

Come check out my game if you like! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/virus-detected

vfabien21 2017-12-12 11:12

@legulysse have you made it with gamemakers ? Apparently it can cause some issues with gamemaker. Bitdefender is getting even more paranoïd now, as it doesn't even let me download your game... I have just declared it as a false positive on their site...

legulysse 2017-12-12 23:29

@vfabien21 ahah :D no its a personal c++/sfml engine. It's not the first time I use it, and this hosting site as well, maybe I'm just being unlucky with bitdefender here. I hope you will manage to test the game some day :D I've put yours in my todo-list o/

>It is I, Lunr the God of Treason, and I love potatoes. You should give them a go!

*Potatoes, what are those?*

>Golden and delicious, you grow them in a field and later harvest for immediate consumption. Increased vitality assured!

*Sounds like a lot of work. Me and my 19 mates will do just fine without food. Believe me.*

>No, you ought to be believing in me!

*Nah, we're good.*

There is not much to this currently: build everything in excess and that is that. The gods, while numerous, don't do enough; -3000 (and dropping) faith did not cause them any alarm. It is not Polytheism that is growing here, quite the opposite. These gold digging, house building, little atheists are multiplying and they don't even die of old age! *Maybe potatoes are the answer?!*

In all seriousness, there are a lot of directions you could take this. Just make sure there are some decisions to me made, or at least funny shenanigans with the deities and their conflicting interests. You already have ideas along these lines though, so I need not add more!

The music here works well, which is very important for this game to work. I just wish I could get more of my villagers to wander away from the "town square." Well done. I'd like to see what becomes of this in the future. It's nice and pleasant to play.

kromeboy 2017-12-22 12:25

Is a solid initial idea but it need balance and a loosing state. Challenge from the gods could have make this, but is ok for a 72h game.

I think that with more mechanics it could become something interesting

creamybacon2 2017-12-24 06:14

I like the grid system you made. It felt like it all worked well and didn't overlap. I found that as long as you stay organized and kept up with the growth that there was not a great amount of challenge. I would suggest maybe some weather hazards, and an end game scenario. Other than that good job!

kerdelos 2017-12-25 09:56

We can clearly see how far this game could go. In it's current state it's fun to play but there's some limitations I'll detail later. However the concept is solid and could go a long way with more work and polish. For on thing the art and the music are good and contrbutes a lot to the overall atmosphere. So do the villagers who roam your village. Too bad they don't have any purpose yet. Also adding a zoom in / zoom out options would be great. So would be the ability to destroy buildings or to see howmuch they cost. And I wasn't really impacted by the numerous god I had. You surely have ideas about how to make them impact more gameplay and I'mcurious to see that. Good job ! ( particularly for doing that on your own engine ! )

legulysse 2017-12-28 18:20

Update 1.1 released with zoom support, costs feedbacks, space key to center camera, and some rendering optimizations \o/

monika 2017-12-28 18:38

:) My feedback has mostly been covered already (and some of it already fixed in the post-jam version) so I'll just say that it took a moment to wrap my head around negative faith (a deficit of faith!) caused by gods showing up, and I'm still working on what negative potatoes means.
