For a first LD game, this is very good. You have made a super simple game, that is easy and fun to play. I also like you have included a story and control instruction in the game. And both the graphics and sound effects is great. Music would also have been great, but especially for a first LD game, it is okay not to have. So overall well done, and I hope to see you in another LD in the future.

@jk5000 Thank you very much for your reviews. Highly appreciated 😁

Nice little game, I really like the art.

You need to rate more games though, ~30 would be best.

nikrt 2017-05-17 19:00

@zwrawr Thanks a lot. Yeah I am on it πŸ˜…

jiri-one 2017-05-17 19:31

Nice game, liked the art and the audio, and the concept was fine, the one thing I would defenitly add are bullets which you can see :), also some sext went over the edges in my game , overall a good first ludum dare game.

nikrt 2017-05-17 19:36

@jiri-one Thanks a lot for the input. Appreciate it πŸ˜€

ajayajayaj 2017-05-17 19:37

Hey, I suggest adding cover art to increase visibility (you can add it when you edit your game)

nikrt 2017-05-17 19:45

@ajayajayaj Thanks for the input. I'll surely Try that out

Really? Can the player jump only on the ground? :D I can't build a big tower :( BTW Good job, It's a funny game, but I missed the bullets :)

nikrt 2017-05-17 20:12

@ragnta I only just thought of that jump problem (cause I never had the idea of building grenade towers πŸ˜…). I ran out of time for the bullets. Thanks a lot ☺️

Good fun but a little frustrating :) It might be better with a different camera movement scheme, as the camera seemed to move unexpectedly sometimes causing me to miss shots because the target wouldn't be under the mouse any more. If it's possible for the game to take control of the mouse pointer it could make it move with the camera? Otherwise maybe it would be worth just having no camera movement and making the game fit on a single screen :/

Also it would be neat to make hearts appear in front of dead aliens, the hearts are more important for the player to see :) Still, IΒ had fun :)

nikrt 2017-05-17 20:23

@karln Thanks for the advice. Really appreciate it a lot. I'll try to incorporate it in similar situations in the future. 😁

alexandr-rum 2017-05-17 20:49

Pew Pew! Sounds cool)) why then I have not seen lasers! But this is not the main thing! cool game!

Last Breath 01.png

Text getting cut off is one of the biggest issues I have with this game, especially since the instructions are only included within the game and not anywhere on the game description.

I can see, however, that you've done a good job ensuring playability, such as instantly killing the player when they fall off the edge of the island. And no, that's not sarcasm - it's good that I don't have to wait so long once I can't get back on the island and so I just die instantly so I can restart faster. I thought the art looked all right; there was some interesting use of lighting on the ground that was pretty cool. The sound effects are also good - I like the groans and the shooting sound has a nice pitch and isn't too annoying when spammed a bunch of times.

Some other suggestions:

- It would have been more helpful to see bullets being shot out of the gun and hitting said enemies. If not bullets, then lasers, etc. But there should be at least some feedback on the trajectory of where the projectiles are being headed. - I would have liked to press and hold the button to shoot rather than clicking rapidly, because the gun doesn't seem to do all that much damage. - The enemies seem to remain completely static if they are spawned far away from you, which allows for the player to just launch grenades as they seemingly regenerate and obliterate enemies with ease. You could have both sorts of enemies, ones that walk back and forth on the island, and some that remain stationary until you approach them. - If you are to continue upon this, do make the text smaller so that it fits on the screen, and also, have the in-game text could match the titlescreen for more consistency. (I like the menu screen fonts a lot.) - The UFOs also look very out of place in comparison to the rest of the graphics (like 3D ish?), so consider redesigning them so that they have the same sort of style as the enemies, characters and island.

Bugs:

- If I launch a grenade very close to me and then stand on it, the grenade doesn't ever detonate. I also am unable to jump when I'm on a grenade, but I can still move (see screenshot below). Last Breath 02.png - As also seen in the screenshot above, enemies can get stuck in the ground sometimes. - Pressing the Alt key also allows me to launch a grenade. I'm not sure if this is in the controls, but from what I saw in the Instructions, it was only mentioned that the mouse buttons were used for deploying weapons. Which makes me wonder if the game also has a button mapped to the shooting key.

Overall, this was relatively well rounded, especially for a first Ludum Dare entry. I'd love to see what that Story and Instructions text on the menu screen say in its entirety. I'm always a sucker for stories and in-game lore.

zyxer 2017-05-17 20:49

Nice graphics! I like the colors and the artstyle. The aliens kind of remind me of the Daleks from Doctor Who. :D

Is there anyway to dodge the alien's shots? I never got past 8 kills. I also have the feeling that grenades always only hit one enemy, no matter how many stand nearby.

As already mentioned in other comments, the camera tends to jump around a bit for no apparent reason.

Overall fun game with a nice atmosphere.

nikrt 2017-05-17 21:01

@random-storykeeper I am sorry for the bug man, here it is story1.png story2.png I regret not putting in the bullets myself. But I put so much time in the artwork, i ran out of time by the time i reached the bullets. And about the enemies, thats how they are programmed, when you stay away from them, they start destroying the crust, but when you go close, they attack you. Anyways, thanks for such a detailed input. I highly appreciate it :)

nikrt 2017-05-17 21:04

@alexandr-rum Thanks a lot :D

@zyxer Thanks a lot man, put the most amount of time in the graphics section anyways :D. The grenade is a bit buggy, but mostly, it hits multiple enemies.

Attack the enemies from far away, if you go close, all of them would attack then leading to quick death. Thanks for the input :D

atmospherium 2017-05-17 23:24

Nice entry, especially for your first LD. You put quite a few good things into this - gunplay, basic enemy AI, different enemy types. The art style is definitely a strong point, although I wish the background was a bit more engaging - maybe a starfield or something? Any of my complaints (bullet visibility, text size, etc...) are things that other have already brought up. Good work and I hope to see more LD entries from you in the future.

nikrt 2017-05-18 04:01

@atmospherium thanks a lot for the input man πŸ˜€ I'll keep that in mind.

hackschnitzel 2017-05-18 16:37

I already rated your game ;-) And now you habve > 20 Congratulations!

nikrt 2017-05-18 17:05

@hackschnitzel Thank you so much :') thanks a lot

random-storykeeper 2017-05-18 22:53

@nikrt Hey, thought I should clarify that the enemies were completely stationary - they weren't even destroying the crust, until I approached them. Unless that was meant to be a very gradual thing? There was no animation for them destroying the crust when I was playing.

nikrt 2017-05-19 10:10

@random-storykeeper yeah I ran out of time for animations, so I just put pulsating lights instead πŸ˜
