This game has a real nice feel to it. I imagine on a tablet or phone this would do me for a very long time.
Suggestions:
I'd make the bamboo appear to grow out of the ground and shift from a dull brown to a vibrant green (green indicating ready to cut).
That delay is my only qualm with the game - takes you right out of engagement. You're doing all these super fast taps and moves and then you have to slow down and wait for 10 seconds. These kind of games you want to be back into combat as fast as physically possible.
Other than that, really great. On tablet if you could make it multiplayer where you swipe out from the players position, that'd be really cool. Make it that your character gathers bamboo in a backpack and slashing your opponent will cut through his bag straps and make him drop his loot.
Thanks for making this and best of luck in the competition!
Fun little concept idea. A few notes:
* retry timer is far too long
* text doesn't fit in and the contrast to the background isn't strong enough
* cut animation should trigger on proximity to bamboo, not just by a delay - currently you can trigger the cut animation before you even make it to the bamboo.
Finally, what's with the third leg?
Once I realized what I was supposed to be doing, it was an enjoyable game, reminded me of something on an Atari 2600 :)

Really like this game. The animation of cutting the posts is satisfying. Also like how hitting multiple ones in a row works.

this would make a good touchscreen game
I agree on the said, the reset timer were annoying and also think this could be nice on touchscreen.
Cool, good luck!
Cool - I played it on my Windows 8 machine with a touch screen and it works really well (except that it's difficult to click all the way out towards the edges). Cool concept, this could work really well for phones and tables with just a little more work to make it feel complete. You could look into using PhoneGap to convert the HTML5 to "native" Android, iOS & Windows Phone (and blackberry and like everything else too) apps if GameMaker doesn't support building for them directly. If you don't know what PhoneGap is, it's basically a tool that embeds your HTML code into a modified version of Google Chrome for that phone OS. It works really well in most cases.

Cool little game, I didn't understood how I missed the cut and it was a little annoying to wait for restart, but otherwise I liked it, good job !
