I'm not sure I really understood the game, such as why animal creatures kept flying across the screen or what this has to do with the theme for that matter, but it was a fairly simple and fun game.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD25 → Light Speed Driver

Definitely playable, and trippy. Where's the villain?
Hey guys thanks for checking the game out. You are the villain, while you think you're racing around space you're actually running over innocent people. This is shown in the brief flashback moments.
In Light Speed Driver the player is the "villain".
The player is hallucinating due to being on LSD hence the title [L]ight [S]peed [D]river. While the driver believes himself to be in a fantasy game world he is in fact going on a carmagedeon style rampage running over innocent cartoon-like civilians.
When hitting the stop sign icons the player catches glimpses of reality.
On game over the player finally is jettisoned out of his vehicle to his own death.
Spent the first few minutes trying to work out how to shoot because of the crosshair in the middle, had it not been for your spiffy unity web page player work I would've been stuck all day! Controls are a bit choppy, and the score doesn't seem to increase, but all in all the game is pretty fun.
Well I really didn't understand that game but the strange alien that jumps in front of the windshield did entertain me quite a bit.
I felt the controls were a touch sensitive but this was definitely fun.
My eyes! My eyes!
great idea!
Playable! The screen would sometimes flash over to a driver in a car running over people so I kind of saw the villain theme there :D
Ha, right as I started to wonder where the theme was, I saw my first flash. Interesting game.
I did't get it at first,
But when I know Light Speed Driver means LSD,
this makes me "WOW!"
Interesting game. Might need to be a bit more clear in the game how you are a villain
nice, i understood what was going on (you're fucked up and think you're traveling to space but you're actually just on the road) and appreciated that you didn't hammer it in with a story screen or anything.
Hehe, I actually got it without reading the comments. Kudos for the subtlity and giving me the, "aha!" moment.
I spent about 30 seconds thinking "Did this guy even try for the theme?" and then it hit me.
Have to admit, I had a lower score until I read some of the comments. Nice allegory but the gameplay still suffers from being sluggish and twitchy, somehow at the same time. I enjoyed everything else, though!
Nice. Played it, found it nice and simple, read the description, played again. Cool to know the thought process behind it
The whole back story explaining the tie in with the theme that you described in the comments would've been useful as a starting sequence in the game or in the description above. That aside, it's a nice little trippy game. :)
Your take on the theme was really unique, i like that, really nice game
Cool game, seems well polished. Nice touch with the flash backs, I liked how you saw terrified pedestrians in the distance where the pick-ups are.
At first I was like, why is a light speed driver a villain, but then I got a little better at catching those yellow objects and got it :) But i'm not sure if this is physically correct :P
Well, that was a trip-out!
