While the graphics don't do much for the mood, the gameplay does, which is even better. I like the style you chose combined with the fact it takes place in a library. Is it a coincidence?
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD22 → The Library of Madness

An ASCII game, how nice!
Pluses:
+ Mythos creatures that can't die
+ The idea of losing sanity just by being near the creatures
+ The general mood
Minuses:
- I got killed because of the kitten! D: I couldn't change places with it, and got stuck between a kitten and a Creature
- No game over screen, the game just freezes on death.
- Needs to restart the program to play again
Adding an inventory system, or a way to read past notes would have been awesome.
Thanks for the game!
Great feedback! Yea the graphics are REAL simple in traditional roguelike fashion. I thought a library was more evocative than just "oh it's a dungeon."
Sorry about the kitten :) congrats on finding it though - there's only two and they aren't exactly easy to get to. I haven't seen a game freeze yet on several computers so I'm really curious what made your experience different. If you re-read this let me know what kind of computer/operating system you were using for future reference.
The other points are totally valid. I would have loved to make some additional tweaks, but I used the time I had!
Very nice entry! Somehow the fact that this is a roguelike makes it feel as though the designer is somehow trying to shield the player from the horrors of the cosmos... or perhaps is all too aware that the horrors of the cosmos cannot be represented in a form comprehensible to the human mind and thus a red C must suffice.
Nice musical score too!
Rouge-like games should have Vi-like key controls! :-D
I liked the mood, but I was too prone to insanity… Good game overall.
Downloading now... wow.. 8 meg for an ascii art game :) Not too bad, I'm impressed you managed to get some music made in the time. Like the fact that there are notes to collect, adds to the atmosphere. I'm not sure how far I got before dying but I did traverse a few levels, I might come back to this one to try and complete it though (if it has an end?)
