| Whales of Aelia | Cool. Pretty sure I didn't understand the whole plot, but that's OK, it was fun to play. Didn't seem the worms did anything, and I finished it fine. The names really added character to the... apparently wales. :) | ||
| Paradise Fort | Seems like it could be really neat, but I never figured out how to obtain wood, or whatever that orangeish material is to make ladders. Also, the movement felt very slippery, and I easily got into situations where it would appear to be easy to navigate, but I couldn't get around without ladders (which I couldn't build). Cool game. | ||
| Planetfall | To everyone who didn't get it to work, I got the same error as you and made it work just by renaming the .dll's included. Deleting them would have also worked. This is not guaranteed to work though. (I'm using Windows XP, which might also be your problem. As noted in TheGrieve's blog posts.) <br/> <br/>Planetfall was fun, and I played it until the screen was almost clear. Finally died in the water, because my last planet chunks were down there and I couldn't find a way to regain health. There was also a bug where a few chunks wouldn't move, but that's just a bug. <br/> <br/>The game was neat, and I really enjoyed playing it. :) | ||
| Larma and the Missing Island | I agree with Tenoch. Audio seems too good to be true, and the theme is a sidenote. <br/> <br/>Other than that, the gameplay was cool. Sometimes I couldn't grab an arm or leg because the keyframe buttons were in the way, but that's minor. Would have been great to have challenges. | ||
| Island Escape | I couldn't understand the collision detection well enough to play the game. On the first level, I consistently fell through, and after going through the level preview too many times, I gave up. The graphics and sound were great though! | ||
| The Floor Is Lava | Wow, impressive. Once I understood the mechanics, I had a lot of fun with this. | ||
| Nieuwe Aarde | Excellent game. Very strategic, but a bit too hard for me to beat. Maybe a difficulty slider would have helped the non-strategy-game-players like me. Didn't rate it down for that though, it was just difficult. <br/> <br/>(Just figured out how to use magic, realizing I hadn't examined every command in detail. If I played it again knowing this it might not be so difficult, but I'm out of time for now. Great game.) | ||
| Super Island Colonizer | Cool. A nicely balanced island simulation. I think it should start at a higher level than Cheetah, though, by default. <br/> <br/>Nicely done. | ||
| Eden Island | The LD17 page is marked as a draft, and in that case I think you should have seen this in the LD16 rules: <br/> <br/>"Overview <br/>Ludum Dare is a solo, from scratch competition." <br/> <br/>This describes the Ludum Dare, and is integral to the compo. It was obviously just a careless omission. (Unless it was a way to fight against the ToJam people, in which case I think we would have been told about this significant rule change.) I understand that you probably didn't notice this, but it's not in the spirit of the Ludum Dare to do this as a team. <br/> <br/>Anyway, the game. Sound and graphics were great. The reflections looked pretty good, and the spriting was very enjoyable to look at. Music had a good feel to it. There was a z-ordering issue, but I don't know how you can handle that with flixel (I take my Flash raw). But for a three-person team, I would have expected more gameplay, or at least a clearer reason why I couldn't place down more palm trees. It was fun at first, but after I realized I had already hit the end-game, I was a little disappointed. | ||
| Sky Traders of Jupiter | Nice. Has a good board-game feel to it. It would have been nice to either stop time when you are stationary, or be able to roll over the material on the right to see prices at each city, so I'm not spending so much time deciding which trade route to take. The gameplay was very well thought out for a 48h game, I like it. | ||
| SkyLands | Awesome music. But I've got to agree with others' critiques: the restarting levels deterred me from finishing the game. <br/> <br/>If you don't mind me doing so, Diet Chugg, I rehosted your game here: <br/>http://galacticgaming.net/hosting/ludum/SkyLands.exe | ||
| Dinosaur Vs the islands! | Funny. Liked it. It's so bad it's good! | ||
| Islands Far Away | Huh? I got more points than it says is possible. 12/10. Funny and entertaining. | ||
| Zombie Island | Really neat. Smooth controls, and interesting graphics. One time there was a zombie stuck on top of a wall, though, and i couldn't get past--especially with their instant kills. Death screen was awesome though. :) | ||
| Dnalsi | Incredibly hard to read the resources, but other than that I thought it was fun. Really easy, once I knew what I was doing, though. | ||
| Life-Cycle of the Great Asp Turtle | Collisions were weird and ocean didn't wrap for me, but I accept bugs as a result of a 48hr game developing session. I liked the concept. I thought the people were skulls or something else non-desirable for a while though. | ||
| Super Macho Minesweeper | This game was posted soon after the theme was announced. <br/> <br/>Maybe the ToJam guys did it, who knows. | ||
| Horrible LD17 Game | I couldn't think of a strategy of placing the bombs without getting hit myself, although I did win by bravely running on top of the turrets and placing bombs. <br/> <br/>Also, keep in mind next time to check out the background color--I think a simple blue might have helped a little bit. <br/> <br/>Better than some Game Maker games I've seen though. :) | ||
| Island Warriors | A clone of Galcon, of course, but a well done clone. (I know from IRC or somewhere that it was accidental, but still have to take from innovation for that. :P) <br/> <br/>Very fun though, AI proved challenging yet beatable. Good job, and I like that you distributed it in multiple forms. In the applet I saw some brief graphical errors, but that's to be expected from a 48hr game. | ||
| Ilopocalypse | Interesting. Couldn't get the hang of the jumping, so I never got more than a few tiles to the right. The player movement seemed too limited by your physics engine--it doesn't act anything like a traditional platforming engine. Also, when I got knocked off the left edge I got a bunch of errors. Meteors worked nicely though. | ||
| Simulacrum | I think the game was too fast. I don't mean story-wise, that went by too quickly. Maybe I just don't play enough platform games, but the only way I succeeded in the jumps was repetition. If the movement had been much slower, it would be that much more playable. <br/> <br/>I'm not sure I got the whole storyline, because the game moved too fast. Because of the fast character movement, I think I missed a few dialog boxes. With a slower character, I think the game could be much better in this respect. | ||
| Zombie Grinder | Cool! Beat it, but I just started running in the end. Biggest annoyance was that the enemies would form a point later on, and I couldn't kill a single one. | ||
| Stranded! | hazman, my theory: This island is surrounded by many others which are plentiful with banana trees. The protagonist is nearsighted, so can hardly tell they're there, and he lost all feeling in his feet, so he can't detect the common low-magnitude earthquakes that shake the bananas from their bunches. <br/> <br/>I didn't really think it was all that fun though... it felt to me like a "you're stuck on a sandy island with a slow banana feed" simulator. But I thought this simplicity was its charm, along with the irony of having such a weak main character. <br/> <br/>And this is the first entry so far where I've voted for all categories! Yay! | ||
| Arcipelago | Neat concept. Simple. It got a bit difficult after the first few levels (because of how hard it is to tell where the finish is) and I think the controls could be slightly improved to be more responsive. The sound effects were good too, even though there were only two I experienced. <br/> <br/>Also *highfive* on having a number at the beginning of your username. :D |
