LD48 — Deeper and deeper

I got stuck with the goblins level. I am still not sure what makes the difference between attacking them and dying. Got stuck for a while. The previous levels had very interesting mechanic ideas. Both lasers. The lava. Plus the graphics look nice.

There seems to be a glitch with goblins' model, after many restarts/undos, they start getting very jumpy.

@udo but sometimes digging earth above the goblin kills the goblin?

It's. So. Hard.

Good stuff. Love the color. Character is well animated. I am quite sure that you'd tweak the difficulty if it wasn't a 48 hours dev thing. Overall it's amazing how much of a game this already is. Like a mix between Meat Boy and Kaizo Mario. But well above my skill set. Gave up after level 3.

The Final Frontier by BinaryPrinciple 2021-05-01T23:49:19Z

I reached the end. Overall I think the heart amount is not well-balanced. There's too many hearts making it quite risk-free to just go through obstacles and then get hearts. Gun is a completely different story, most of the time, it is really risky to use the gun and at the end of the day you end up taking damage. So going through the obstacle tends to be an easier way to take 1 damage.

It was fun to reach the bottom though. It's cool how much game there already is. With some more polish it might be cool. The graphics and the atmosphere are quite cool. And yeah, it applies the theme rather nice.

All right I got to the end of the campaign. Here's some feedback.

There's definitely fun ideas here. Deacelerating so that you can move horizontally. Some of the art is pretty cool, the enemies and the monster at the end.

Where the game really lacks is in feedback to the player. It took me a long while to understand that hitting the fans was what was causing me to lose all my fuel. I think making fuel the health bar is a good idea that streamlines things, but this would be more understandable if there was some animation or sound when hitting something. And maybe if the fuel indicator blinked in that case. I understand art is not that easy to do, but I think that even some camera shaking would help.

It took me a long time to realize you had to click the fuel/gun upgrades to get them.

Maybe two modes is too much to deliver during a COMPO and polishing a single mode would have yielded nicer results.

The Cavern Of Madness by Nature Studioz 2021-05-02T03:15:30Z

It's amazing how much game there is here. It has mechanics, different characters and functional controls. I got to the final screen and overall it was a fun grind.

Some things:

* Some time after the spider appear, there is an object that looks like a grey line and this can damage you but it is so fast that it is really hard to dodge it. * Sometimes you would lose 2 hitpoints for one hit. In reality you are hitting the object twice, but it is happening so quickly that it feels like you are losing 2 points. Some time of invulnerability after a hit would help here. * It's really hard to avoid the canon in the second? level (The one with the canon that shoots right just above a row with a canon that shoots left.)

I would say the main thing this game lacks is something that would make it stand out as a platformer. Right now it is jut that, a platformer. And it is very functional at it, but having a mechanic that would make it stand out would be a big help because otherwise it is a very well-polished game for 48 hours.

Dig Deeper & Deeper: Go Deep (HTML5) by vexorian 2021-04-26T01:38:15Z

I just noticed that there is already a game with this name in the jam. Unfortunately I can't change the name. My apologies. The official name will be : "Dig Deeper & Deeper: Go Deep".
