Interesting puzzle game where you race to survive and save as many Pompeiians as you can.
Compliments on the art, music and the atmosphere, I loved how it gets darker/more orange as lava approaches.
There were no sounds in the intro cutscene, which might be a bug!
I don't see any connection with the theme thought... You only have 10 seconds to play, but nothing happens every 10 seconds. You might have flooded a section of the town with lava every 10 seconds, for example.
Oh, and the game over screen is a tad too long. If I lose, I want to get back into it as soon as possible. First time it brought up the atmosphere but after that it was a bit tedious.
While there's a definitive advantage to learning by doing, some kind of a tutorial at the start of the game would've been greatly appreciated. I rushed to build a couple of Extractors so I can fund the Barracks, only to discover it's not spawning units. At first I thought it was a bug so I restarted the game a couple of times, went for the same strategy, got the same results. Then I built the Depot.
I might be a slow learner, but to my defense, RTS games usually have extra supply capacity so you can build some units right off the bat, without a need to build extra supply buildings.
Love what you did with the theme, the minimalistic art style and music! Gameplay loop is solid, I had great fun getting overwhelmed a couple of times.
With more work, I think you can make this into a proper game, some sort of idle RTS roguelike, with meta progression, unit upgrades, a way to heal units/repair buildings and more enemy variety.
Impressive for a first jam game! I had fun playing the game and wished the difficulty kept increasing as I went along - i.e. more than 3 enemy soldiers spawning, maybe even an enemy tank attacking.
I would recommend starting the game with the HELP menu opened!
The main cannon of the tank is useless, and I've upgraded the machine gun until it sounded like a Gatling gun from hell and spewed an endless stream of bullets. Loved the Air Strike effects!
My biggest gripe with the game is the theme - an upgrade every 10 seconds is not that impactful.
This game has a lot of juice! A fair warning, it's quite hard as you die in one hit - I would prefer a health bar so I have more room for mistakes.
Graphics are excellent, music is fine but it got buggy at one level, started skipping.
Not the most inventive application of theme but it works.
