LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Rhythm Bandit by fashionbatman 2017-12-04T01:21:00Z

I like the theme and idea behind this a lot and the music is really good.

However I have a couple of complaints about the game play.

Firstly, the changing floor tile colours. It's very confusing to have the tiles change colours constantly. When I first started playing, I thought I was moving without doing anything. I then thought that the map was moving beneath me/with the enemy, before coming to grips with what actually was happening.

Secondly, I think it's legitimately impossible to get some of the crystals if you've picked others up (I might just need to git gud though, so please correct me if I'm wrong with this). Which makes it seem like you can't complete the game with all the items collected.

Sorry to be so critical, I really like the retro theme of this game and the music is really really good. I just think that some parts hurt the game play experience as a whole.

LD40 Compo: The Greed Run by vkmicro 2017-12-04T00:20:46Z

Hiya, this was a nice fun little platformer to play for me. I like the balance between the gods punishing you and you spending the gold they give you to more stats.

The only problem I've found is that after trying for too long to get 800 coins together to buy the "WTF don't buy me bracelet" (it was too tempting). The gods have punished me so hard I move backwards/on the spot. pic.PNG

I had a really great time playing this though and enjoyed the satisfying sound of picking up all those lovely coins. (Just to sate my curiosity could you tell me what the wtf bracelet does?)

Frostbite by Blinkeye 2017-12-03T23:03:24Z

I really like this game. The concept is solid and really well executed. While I found the control for movement to be difficult, I liked this as it gave the game that little bit of extra challenge.

Personally I would have like to seen a scoring system in addition to the amount of time survived (perhaps based off of time survived + the amount of logs picked up).

I also found that you can fall through the world if you go past the grey mountainous bits.

Overall though this is really well made and is a fun little game to play.

Snake Charmer by fakeyou 2017-12-03T23:45:48Z

SNAKE! That's genius it fits the theme so well and this is a great take on the old classic.

The only thing I'd ask for is to be able to change the speeds of the snake. One of my favorite parts of playing snake clones online, was being able to play at triple speeds, to make the game more difficult and fun for myself.

Overall, I really realllly like this game. 1) because I'm a sucker for snake games 2) because It's a done in a way which really gives life back to the classic.

Check out my entry here if you can: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/toy-hero Play as a heroic robot hiding all the other toys away from mum's constant cleaning.

Leaf Me Alone by Ryfi 2017-12-03T23:21:30Z

That was a fun experience! I didn't read the controls the first time round playing and I just pushed leaves to the edge of the screen and left them there. I read the controls after that and had a much better time.

The screaming log was very funny.

Other than the high scores not updating I think this game is pretty perfect. It really feels like the Facebook games you play to show that you're better than your friends.

Well then, here's my scores:

The game was fun and exhilarating to play. The short view distance really kept me on my toes!

The only thing I would add is the ability to jump to give the player more options to deal with stuff (like low rocks). The current controls are more than efficient enough already to deal with everything, I just personally like the option.

Toy Hero! by miKuZune 2017-12-03T23:24:07Z

Yeah, I had a updated version where the tutorial explained more things like how to jump and sprint. But unity bugged out and deleted a bunch of stuff :( . Lucky I made this build before that, but I can't make any further changes now. Thanks for playing though!

Toy Hero! by miKuZune 2017-12-03T23:59:41Z

Thank's for playing man. The music is definitely something to work on (I threw it together in an hour and a half having never made audio for games, and having not used music software in 2 years ish). Thanks for the advice though. If I were to spend more time on it I think I would add some pickups to increase stuff like move speed and add more character to the toys (letter's on the blocks and making the teeth chatter for example), to give it more content.
