LD42 — Running out of space

BoilerMan by Wekaj 2018-08-14T20:22:09Z

I had a great time playing this game. Granted, it is confusing and the demands of the boiler are merciless, but I feel that some of the confusion is fitting. I always felt curious of the life of the boilerman from the movie. What exactly are all those weird candy like crystals he throws around? I thought this game gave me some closure :D

Rusted Robots by benjamin-l 2018-08-14T02:04:37Z

@lynn-young, is it not in the description? You can find it at https://benjamin-l.itch.io/rusted-robots.

@lynn-young we are working on a web version and hope to have it out in 1-2 hours. Sorry for the let down, but thanks for coming back!

@lynn-young the Mac build is done! Webdev may or may not appear. Thanks for waiting so patiently!

I had a lot of fun snooping on other people's business. [Illuminati confirmed]

Frankly this is a pretty basic side scroller. The being killed in one hit is pretty merciless, but that isn't necessarily bad. For me, it was hard to tell myself to keep going after I died, because I had to go all the way back to the beginning. Here's a thought, you've got that skateboard sprite, right. Consider adding a bit of inertia or physics to the skateboard's movement to emulate that of a real one. This would seperate it a little from all the other side scrollers. To wrap up, GameMaker is great for beginners, but you should definitely look for a different engine moving forward for the reasons outlined in the above comments.

We Are Millions by Blizary 2018-08-14T21:13:37Z

I had some fun popping them like bubble wrap. I think I managed to accidentally 'pop' one of the bears preventing him from multiplying. Other than the lack of some implementation, I like what you've got going on here. Music is fitting.

Please, come back and change the link. We want to play your game!

Sky Dare by zchangvx 2018-08-14T05:15:46Z

I had a ton of fun playing this. I was constantly saying to myself "NO, stay the hell away. This is my land!". My right hand did hurt a lot from clicking after I died though.

Get To The Airlock by Dan Davis 2018-08-14T01:40:23Z

I had a lot of fun telling my self, "Okay, speed run. Speed run. Gotta go fast!", and then realizing that my route had been carefully taken into account. The later levels punished expected behavior and you had to be on your toes. As for a death animation, I can understand the difficulty in picking one. I might have went with one where your character just floats off with x's for eyes and bounces off stuff, lifeless. Great job!

Comfort Zone by radow 2018-08-14T02:22:21Z

I really enjoyed using grey people as shields to push my way through hordes of stress people. What I'm really curious about is how you managed/planned the background voices. If I remember correctly, you recorded them yourself? Did you just write down a whole bunch of random expressions and sayings and then speak them?

Paranormal Investigations: The Darkness by Jesse Titus 2018-08-14T02:40:40Z

I too loved the mood. That being said, it was often confusing what exactly was going on. It also appears that one of the dialogue choices has no effect on the outcome. This isn't necessarily bad, but since there are so few choices it seems kinda unexpected and unrewarding if you play through the whole game again to find the alternate endings.

Ludicrous Lift by ConnorH 2018-08-14T02:00:29Z

Took a second before I figured out what on earth was going on, but then it was fun. I was always wondering "Is the next floor going to doom me?". Great job!

My friend had issues seeing the walls when in 4:3 aspect ratio. Info on why you died would be stellar. Awesome job!
