LD39 — Running out of Power

Escape from Solar Sea Fortress by designernap 2017-08-02T08:35:35Z

Awesome entry! I am impressed what you managed in 48 hours, and if you were to make this a full-length polished game I would buy it.

My only frustration has already been mentioned: the battery handling, I kept losing them while walking the stairs and then had to find them in the dark again.

Nice game! Especially to have such nice graphics and audio in COMPO.

As other seem to already mentioned: the shooting mechanic could be improved. For me personally, it feels clunky and goes against the "running out of time" feeling the rest of the game has.

Turn Towards the Light by Selgeron 2017-08-02T07:50:24Z

Nice entry! I even like the abbreviation of the title: TTTL.

I really like the art and the music and the mood they portray. But for me, the sound effects and the game play clashes directly with the mood from the art and music and kills it in the process.

I personally think that standing still to charge the light meter is a bit weird. If it were a bit more suspension I could see forced breaks being a good mechanic but currently, it doesn't integrate with the rest. Also, not sure if bug or intentional, but sometimes the light meter goes beyond the indicated max, and once I seemed to die the "end of map"-death. I bring up the last one because I thought I "had won" only to get a non-congratulatory "game over".

But overall neat game :)

@linky439 Thank you! That was much kinder words than I anticipated while running out of time.

I fully agree on audio and lack of expression. Both were on my todo-list but my time management wasn't up to par. And some dialog was more than a little rushed. If I find the time in the coming weekends I might fix some of that and make a "post-LD" version :)

Regarding endings: I probably should have made it more transparent how much currency/power/fuel is left when the game ends. The majority of the "good" endings require that one made choices so that one has enough of either when encountering the right person. I realize now that why one got a certain ending might be a bit too arbitrary without this information.
