LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

¶City by Sophie 2018-04-23T14:01:18Z

I really got sucked into this! I think you've done really well with the theme on this, text adventure and city builder definitely don't go together but you've made it work really well :)

I haven't played many text adventures in the past, but after shouting **HELP** a couple of times to the poor citizens around me I started to get the hang of navigating and interacting with the game, and the text started to become images in my mind. I feel like all those years of experience with text-based games really show in this one, great job!

What's more impressive, though, is how you managed to achieve all this while only consuming two cups of tea, and _decaf_ at that! ;)

This is a really cool game! I managed to score just over 13,000 after playing for a little while and enjoyed doing so. I encountered two bugs, the first has already been mentioned (vehicle parts moving around), the second is that if the red wall passes over you while you're still in build mode your score won't show up until you exit build mode.

Good work! :)

@ROBOWARRIOR1982 Thanks for the feedback! In case you missed it, though, hitting consecutive beats increases the damage of your bullets :)

@DarkAnice Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

This is one of the few games that I played through multiple times, I really enjoy it! Great visuals, great idea and works really well with the theme. My only gripes are the difficulty scaling (as others have mentioned) and the fact that the golden arrows aren't explained (I had no idea they were even a thing until I read the comments). Overall a fantastic game :)

I found a bug on the PC version - after you reach around 350 points (not sure what wave number that is) the swap counter resets and enemies won't spawn. Each time this happens the game becomes a little more laggy until it eventually crashes.

I really dig this game, probably one of my favorites so far. I think the colors you've chosen fit the typing theme perfectly and the graphics aren't overdone, I love the sound of the typing too! As the game currently stands the difficulty curve feels good and the game itself is really satisfying to play. You definitely picked two incompatible genres but you kept the aspects taken from each of them quite simple and I feel like that's why it works so well. Great job! :)
