Oh yeah, I had one of these! In fact, I played it just recently. You capture the feeling 100%! The third level was the hard, but I managed it. Not sure what the Shift key is for - did everything without it :)
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD60 → Sem_Ion.

This brought me back! Really cute, great job.
haha you are right... I had one of those! Good idea and good execution!
It's genius! How did you come up with this idea? This game is so simple, but so nostalgic.
Love it. But why be probably even more interesting, if you coul rotate it too.
Oh,that’s such a good idea!I love it so much)
I like the idea of this game. You control a small, strange creature with two buttons, which makes the game feel different and fun to try. The creature looks funny, and the bright colors make the game easy to notice. At first, the controls may feel a little strange, but they are simple to learn. I would like to play more and see what happens next. This is a fun little game with a nice and unusual style.
absolute cinema
that's all I gotta say
Hooray for old tech games!!!
Thanks for playing. It means a lot. Here are some answers and coments:
@medvejut - I remember how on a physical version you could press a button firmly, tried to recreate it with shift by making the nossles 2 times weaker, but you are right, they are optional and were added simply to give a bit more options for control.
@nesmon - I had troubles coming up with idea, wanted to make something with a reasanoble scope and randomly remembered the existence of these thing during doom scrolling. The idea was so laconical that I just had to make it.
@baturinsky - You'r totally right. I wanted to allow players to tilt the thing slightly in all directions with mouse position, but it had some issues and wasn't working properly, so I had to cut it. I will probably add it back in a post jam version.
So great 😌! I completely forgot these existed. I remember the hardest part about it was to keep the already placed rings on the tip when trying to place the other rings - I am little sad that didnt make it to the game - to have a level which you pass only when ALL the rings are placed. Aaand I love your workaround for the water sim you mention in the blog post. You just got 5/5ed and a new follower, thank you very much.
Great! I just remember how i player at this thing in childhood! Design and sound is gripping!
I do remember these! Absolute jam game. Simple and effective.
Good work!
After this game, I realize how long it had been since I'd seen a toy like this in real life. Now, maybe I should try to find it. It was sad when the end came so fast, but I also glad because it reminded me of this joy. Thank you for your hard work!
A simple and enjoyable game. It was a joy to see this “thing” after so many years.
Very cool idea, really brings back memories! You did a great job at making the physics work for this mechanic. I was just sometimes confused when a ring ended up in front of the hook 😄
You could do a very cool game out of it.
Hah! Long time since I seen one of those. Great recreation, down to the rough png background.
