Neat and cute entry. I like the expressiveness of the characters

Grampas sure are their own breed huh?

I adore the character art.

Cute story. From what I'm getting is to always cherish our elders. Interesting use of the theme, too. I'm not sure if the order of items matter, but I went with the Measuring Tool -> Gem -> Umbrella -> Shield -> Coin.

Great work! Stylish art!

I kept returning to the woods in my first gameplay. Maybe that's a bug?

the character sprites were lovely, especially the forest spirits! it would've been fun to see grandpa meet his old friends again, but the game is right, all things must end. going back through all the dialogue when i made a wrong trade was a bit tedious, but otherwise i had a good time :) nice work!

I really like the art and the narrative background of the game! Nice idea

quandtuniverse 2023-10-03 17:35

@xlores-liang the looping is intentional when you make a wrong trade, but the dialogue should become shorter if the character recognizes you. If you get the same intro dialogue again, that's a bug, otherwise it's part of the concept!

I love it, the art is good and the story is cute. Really good, one of the best game I played here so far I think

gamedevjeroen 2023-10-03 18:43

Love the vibe set by the art and the music!

Finally, a good narrative game on a jam. These are hard to find.

A nice story game with some cute art! I found the shrinking effect on each new line of text made it harder to read and it got visually tiresome after going through the whole game. I didn't feel very interested in any of the choices until the very last trade. I think it would have been cool if the gravity of each choice increased more clearly until we reach the final one. As noted above, going through the dialogue again after making the wrong trade was a little annoying. Overall interesting concept. The final choice was the best part of the game and I'd like to see you support that high point a little more with the rest of the design.

The game stands out from other submitted games with its soulfulness and atmosphere.

quandtuniverse 2023-10-03 19:07

@lovewerk thank you for the feedback! this is definitely the kind of thing that could be ironed out with more time and playtesting. I'm just amazed our writer managed to get this much done in only two days :D

lovewerk 2023-10-03 19:15

That's true, I was definitely surprised when the dialogue kept going and going haha. Apparently writers don't need sleep ;)

I feel like there's a lot of subtlety going on in this game that's somewhat flying over my head. Maybe that's by design, it's an encouragement to reflect on my choices. I must admit I did not see where the game was going until the very end. I did have to replay a significant portion a couple of times which involved a lot of spam clicking, sadly it did not encourage me to try different dialogue options, just different trades. Maybe I'm not the adventurous type 😅 All that said, you've got incredible mileage out of just a few assets, and the things that were there, were all impactful. I appreciated the little touches like the text animation. Well done!

@poshdan thanks for the feedback! We have abbreviated/reactive dialogue options when you return to a character on a 2nd and 3rd turn, but weren't able to implement the additional options before the submission deadline. However, when we are able to polish we will be adding this exact thing. I don't want to have the player have to sit through the exact same dialogue more than once, especially when it is admittedly long winded at times. Thanks again! I look forward to updating with our amazing team.

Just finished the game and the art is really nice. I found the whole narrative interesting and the whole art was nice. A good experience. Well done, a good entry.
