Cute small tense game , with interesting art style. Good try for a game jam is wonderful <3

@nirlandec thanks so much! It was my first time 3D modeling, animating, and making textures. It was our (3 man team) collective first godot project. We had hoped to do a bit more with the gem pickups but ran out of time sadly.

I like the graphics and the atmosphere! Your character is very well animated for a first 3D model. Good job!

@eliyud a tight deadline and youtube went a long way for motivation lol. Plus two reliable teammates meant it wasn't like I was losing as much development time working on assets as a solo dev. I had some issues figuring out godot's animation trees and blend spaces so I would have liked to do more but was limited by inexperience.

Nice concept. I bet this game would be even more intense if you added some character that is chasing the player.

It was cool that I had to jump because the floor was so uneven and i enjoyed the character movement/controls. Also visuals were cute :D

denzel 2023-10-05 22:58

The movement is really good, i can imagine people speed running the level!

My first impression as I start playing is: it's hard to move around without falling in lava – but that looks like a fun challenge.

Maybe that's intentional, but it's a little too dark. Also you can still jump after you die.

I think controls would work better for me if A/D and Left/Right were swapped, so sideways movement and jumping were controlled with the same hand.

It's got charm and a nice bit of atmosphere, I especially like the rock and lava textures. I couldn't tell if the ground was supposed to be falling away at some point (it seemed like there wasn't any crumbling going on), but the risk of death by lava pit is real! I ended up collecting enough gems to overflow on the edges of the screen before letting this one go. It would've been cool to be able to run around without constantly jumping, but I'm sure you're going to avoid this problem in the next one. Good job.

Wow that was hard, but also really fun! I'm not sure what the different colored gems are for but I got a lot of them XD.

For some reason I do not see any rating buttons for this particular games, but for other games I am able to give ratings. What gives?

I really liked this game and the graphics were quite nice, really liked the lighting. The gameplay was hard and infuriating, little bit like Flappy Bird. :D

harksa 2023-10-08 13:12

It's a cute little game honestly. I laughed when I saw you could completly continue playing while having a game over screen

I'm sure you'll be able to manage godot better for the next game jam, don't stress about it !

Keep up the good work

First of all, I'm a sucker for platformers and especially this kind of graphics style, it tickles the nostalgic part of my brain that remembers the olden days of Nintendo and Playstation with Spyro, Mario and Crash bandicoot! so already off to a good start! The controllers feel snappy and good! While the the animations and environment feel right at home and compliment the game well. I was also pleasantly surprised when there was controller support!

Of course its ludum dare, so there is obviously a time constraint of how many features one manages to create! But i really wish there was a little more. Maybe a double jump? Or some way to lower the lava. I also think some music and sound effects would go a long way here.

Other than that a really solid entry! Keep up the good work! awesome.png

I really like the idea here, and the aesthetic is quite nice - it feels like an old 90s/2000s PC game in a rather nostalgic way for me. My main two suggestions would be to have some fitting, retro-synth music to add to the atmosphere, and movement.

The problem for me getting around was not only that I had to use 'A' and 'D' to turn, but also that I kept getting stuck on things with the slightly varying elevations. If the movement was more fluid it would take this up a notch and could turn into some sort of fun time challenge and/or be on the run from some sort of enemy, as some other commenters have suggested.

rad!

i really like the concept of the game, collect as many points as you can before the rocks drown in lava. The gameplay is a bit challangeing since you cant turn around with a mouse but rather you turn where you walk. I don't know if it was intentional or not but it is a nice feature to this kind of game. It being challangeing reminds me of the loop type of games that make you struggle such as getting over it or the game where you climb up constantly and are on the edge of always falling. The artstyle is super cute and i really liked the fact that you indicated which button to press if you use different consoles. Overall it is a nice prototype and i am sure that if you had more time you could've accomplished something really great! Good job <3
