Nice! Feels to me like a really missed opportunity of making the truck move and impacting the boxes with gravity
It was only my second jam and the first using Unreal, so I kept it really simple. I'm glad I did since it still took me a lot of time, but yeah, having some variations on "basic" Tetris like having the truck move and the boxes affected by gravity would have been awesome! Maybe next time :)
Great entry for your second time! There seem to be some issues going on when moving a piece when another piece is already adjacent. When spamming the left or right key the piece will move to the other side. Also, when spamming to the side of the truck just before landing the rows explode.
Yeah, had a hard time getting rid of all the bugs :( But thanks for the feed back, I appreciate it! :)
This is great! I love the explosions. I did find a bug when trying to place the "L" pieces. If you move the piece to the right, just before it is placed it moves left. Perhaps making the camera view more parallel with the play area would be better. Seriously though great game!!
I found out I still suck at Tetris. Ran into a bug twice where the piece moved the opposite direction of my input. Also depending on the perspective, the shadows in the background overlap almost perfectly with another column causing me to assume the piece was aligned when it wasn't. Or maybe I'm just making excuses for my lame score  NO I CAN'T DO BETTER, OKAY?!
That said, well done, the game runs smoothly, it's good looking and it's (almost) bug free. ~~Gameplay is too hard~~ :zipper_mouth:
A good start for something in a new engine.
A few things I noticed though.
- Some pieces could turn, idk if that was a choice or not - The game seemed to be quite intensive on my machine, in terms of resources and size. Maybe due to the nice models and materials etc - I liked the exploding completed lines, nice touch - Maybe an extra spin on it as suggested in other comments might've given it a boost in replayability.
A good foundation for something in a new engine though
I mean... it's not bad for your first game in Unreal, but it's also asset-flipped Tetris. The assets and their layout are aesthetically pleasing, but it would be nice to see that creativity and eye for visual quality put into something a bit more original.
I want to make it clear, though, I don't think you're a bad game dev, but try to do more than a clone next time.
"Just tetris" - you weren't kidding! xD
The game worked just fine, and looked pretty nice with the off-the-shelf assets. Other than that, I'd have liked to see a bit more originality (some additional effect related to the theme, perhaps?)
Good first game, definitely tetris! Hope you continue to make games and incorporate more of your original ideas! Liked the explosions and suburban setting and being on top of a moving truck. Good work!
An okay little Tetris game.
Never played tetris in 3D before.
I can't imagine the moving person is very happy about their boxes being blown up like that.
Also, I managed to stack some boxes behind the truck: boxes.png
