While the gameplay seems unpolished on first glance there is actually a lot here that is done and done well. I think perhaps the scope of the game was too large. I couldn't figure out a way to get ammo for the other guns and there are a ton of glitches. For your first submission its really good and bonus points for pausing the music when the game is paused!

Really like the look of the zombies and the graphics in general. Great job!

@austin-sierra The guns are in a couple of spawn locations in the level, It probably should have done is put the pistol as a spawn right in front of the player at the beginning to better communicate that

@nima Thank you.

It cost me a lot to get ammunition xD, I think that the artistic section can improve in many aspects as well as the gameplay, polishing those things can lead to something very fun. nice job!

Ended up with this score hahahaha. Very simple game but it was entretaining for a few minutes, kind of difficult to find the weapons ammo in the floor but its a good game overall!

This game sadly runs into balance issues many jam games face. I like the idea to give the zombies a higher speed than the player - that could make for fun action scenarios. But that doesnt work here as the zombies stay in place for their attacks and thus miss you.

Killing zombies takes way to long with the one weapon you start with so you are forces to walk backwards and shoot the whole game or just ignore the zombies as they will miss you if you move.

My "quick" fixes would be:

- limit the aggro range of the zombies so they could lurk behind corners and not pile on you from all over the map. Maybe combine that with a low render-distance/fog for horror atmosphere.

- let them attack you while moving but make them easier to kill.

But building the first jam game is a big achievement. Hope to see you in the next LD again!

Gameplay-wise, the points I want to make have already been touched on.

Otherwise, I appreciated your CC0 asset curation and crediting those assets in-game. Menu systems definitely aren't necessary for game jams, but the time taken shows that you care and as such is worth noting I think.

A first person shooter made by godot. Well done. To be honest, I think these zombies are to tanky to kill...

davision 2022-04-06 19:00

It feels pretty barebones but I can't say no to some basic zombie shooting. At some point it seemed to be more zombies than there are bullets but conveniently the zombies are not much of a challenge and have a hard time hitting me. FPS and especially AI stuff in these games is really hard!

Im so bad at this lmao! How did someone get 64 kills?? xD Its fun tho

Good job on your first submission. Very cool! Felt like the zombies took way to long to kill and would have wanted some more feedback from when I shoot them, was confused wether I hit them or not. But overall great job! Looking forward to see more games from you:D

bassilij 2022-04-08 07:03

I join the comments above, but not bad in general!)

I see zombies, I upvote :v:

Zombies YES! Great work :D

skleembof 2022-04-10 20:07

Like others have pointed out, the zombies take too long to kill and don't actually hit you if you keep moving. Fix these issues and it'll start to feel like a more fleshed out zombie game

wolfpredator 2022-04-10 22:40

It's strange but have a lot of fun!) I enjoyed

As others have said, the game is overall pretty good but feels very unpolished.

Making a full 3D survival game in 72 hours is impossible, and of course you need to take shortcuts to get it done. Unfortuantly, I think the shortcuts that you took really hurt the gameplay experience. When it comes to zombie survival games, the most important thing is the graphics and the gameplay. In terms of graphics, I don't think they are that bad. But, the main problem is in the gameplay.

Overall, the gameplay just seems like it wasn't tested enough, or you didn't bother to fix any of the major problems. The zombies have far too much health, getting ammunition is almost impossible, for some reason zombies can't attack you when you are moving (which is most of the time!), the spawn locations are inconsistent and in weird places, and there are no instructions on what to do or where to go. It honestly just seems like you took too many shortcuts on the gameplay and didn't spend enough time really polishing it and making it fun.

Besides that, the game is overall a pretty good first submission. The concept is somewhat interesting, I liked the music, and it still was kind of fun, even with the gameplay issues. Good jobs, and congrats for finishing your first Ludum Dare!
