Very cool that you managed to get an rts system up and running in 72 hours. Also always nice to see a fellow gamer maker user, good job!
The game is a bit rough around the edges, I feel. What I think:
The box at the bottom of the screen was blocking my drag select making it difficult to select units.
You should add a click select when you only have one guy you want to move
The AI should think about adding buildings rather then just building units.
There's alot of empty space that the game doesn't use, since the enemy is in the middle of the screen the world should be brought inward to them so that they are on the lower edge.
There was a glitch where the box select would be on screen if you clicked on the map.
I will say though that RTS's are one of the more difficult genres to make so thumbs up for giving it a try.
BTW since i see you haven't rated any games yet, you should as the algorithm is more likely to show your game if you give feedback and rate other people.
A good start to an RTS but I wish there were a few more units/buildings, also the AI doesn't really do much which takes a lot away from the gameplay.
Cool game, I really like games with handmade graphics!
nice start, keep going!
Wow, that's incredibly impressive to pull off in 72 hours. It's obviously light on content and features, but the core of it plays just like a classic Westwood/Blizzard RTS (and maybe the audio is a little too close :P). Super smooth and responsive controls, this is a great foundation to build on.
Its a good start, you should keep developing this. RTS games are notoriously difficult to make so the fact you got a working one for the compo is impressive. You would have gotten a higher score from me if you attempted to use the theme.
Okay game. For what it is, it's good. Would like to see some more features or animations. :D
As a fellow person dumb enough to make an rts for ldjam (3 of my past entries were), I salute you. However, it did feel really awkward that units remained in place relative to each other instead of converging on one point when I issued a move order. The minimap feels low-visibility to me. I'm very confused about what the number above the money count is supposed to be. As far as actual gameplay goes, I boomed up immediately, got rushed, and then crushed the attackers with overwhelming force and dropped the hammer. Textbook. It's only a prototype, so I'm curious to know where you plan to go from here.
Very micromanagement-intensive, since moving units can dodge bullets and therefore live longer while inflicting the same amount of damage. The game has potential, although its lacking units, buildings and a more intelligent ai right now (kind of natural for a prototype).
Amazing making the bones of a RTS games in 72 hours. Bit rough but has potential. Well done
I played around with your game for a bit. I'm glad to see there's a victory condition, as well as defeat condition implemented. Also nice to see the two sides differentiated by the art.
There was a bug where you could select enemy units and make them move at your command. Combined with the fact enemy soldiers don't defend their base, I could win the game with first soldier I bought.
That said, I really enjoyed the game. I built a proper base of about 10 buildings first and second time I played it. The fact that I could look around for ways to "game the game" added a bit of fun to it after winning twice. In the end, it's a game jam game, and your game is all I'd expect from a game jam RTS - short and fun. A very solid effort. Nicely done, it made my morning .)
Thank you for playing my prototype! I am specializing in creating RTS - or Strategy Games in general, for Ludum and other Game Jams (currently one other). So in each iteration I try to improve on a template project, from which those games derive, or get updated. Currently I have some updated versions of old entries, though didn't upload them because of my expectation what state those game should be. Frankly my plan this time was like: in content comparable to my last entry plus at least a fake AI - obviosly I didn't managed it mostly by interference from outside events e.g. my mum went to hospital for an operation - it went well, at least she is getting on my nerves again...
