Certainly ambitious to create an asynchronous multiplayer for a game jam. The idea of stealing villagers from other players evokes that early 2000s async online multiplayer vibe. Unfortunately I ran into some issues that marred the experience, hopefully if I detail them they provide some useful insight for tweaking your tech!
- Touching any island would freeze the game for 1/2 a second - I managed to head straight at an arrow (such that it wasn't moving) for a good 5 minutes without seeing an island, not 100% sure that was intended. I gave up before reaching it and the arrow disappeared after a bit. - I never actually found any villagers to steal, I estimate I visited around 15 islands, although they may have been repeats of a smaller set. I'm guessing based on the scoreboard that they're concentrated on a single user island?
I'll definitely be back to check and see if my villagers have been stolen!
@sauski Thanks for the reply, I've looked through the issues you've described, and indeed your findings will greatly benefit in helping us adjust the game. in case you might want to know what is causing the issues.
- touching an island would freeze the game for half a second: this is most likely caused since we request the islands inventory. (this should be able to be fixed by requesting the nearby islands inventories, or updating the islands on the whenever an attack has been listed on the server)
- not finding an island when heading towards an arrow, this we have not been able to reproduce, however we do display only 5 arrows but do not sort the islands based on distance, there are for sure some improvements here, (arrows can also point to fishing spots, but the arrow does not visibly differ)
- we currently do not have any "island inventory" decay/regrowth, islands will stay empty until we reset them manually, furthermore we noticed that there was a bug in the inventory system that might cause you losing items out of the inventory upon raiding multiple islands at once, the latter is currently fixed (though i should look at it some more)

As mentioned before, a very ambitious project for a gamejam.
Positives: - art - leaderboards - relaxing atmosphere - custom splash screen 0_0
Negatives: - boat is slow - occasional buggy animations break immersion - difficult to find players, perhaps bots would help - instructions only appear when starting the game
The game has good potential imo

For some reason, I was not able to join the server - stuck at the loading screen.
@shide that is odd, we've not encountered this issue before, it also seems that the issue has not been logged in the unity analytics dashboard. we will try to find what went wrong, what device did you run the game on?
