just squeaked it in. Everything is completed, I will not be touching the source at all anymore. hope everything is wired up... I do still have to build it and upload to itch.io, should not be more than a couple minutes. Hopefully that doesn't clash with the rules otherwise I will move it to jam.

welp changed some minor things, mainly level geometry of third level fixed so you can actually beat it. assuming this commit ever goes through...
Ok ok ok... I'm not saying that they should never have made Super Meat Boy, but a double-blind test would certainly come out in favour of Muscles and the Gun.
The collision detection on Super Meat Boy *may* be silky smooth and flawless, where as matg may be slightly infuriating (the core head-jumping mechanic is so sweet, but the collisions make it so much harder than you realise!) - but there is simply no comparison when it comes to the lore, and the prose, and the muscles, and the gun.
The music.
Can we talk of that for a moment? That is one FUCKING AWESOME theme song. I don't know if it's because I'm sleep deprived (I currently *do* keep seeing visions ALF out my window), but I can't get it out of my head. PLEASE make it available for download, it is catchy and dirty and beautiful!
Finally, big respect for some of the tough game-design choices. Nothing says "Shoot me" quite like a sign that says "Shoot me". Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

Thank you kindly @mrspeaker! It's always a challenge balancing what to polish so I'm glad some of it shines.
By request you can find a download for the soundtrack as extended edits, original loops, and all the sound effects. Feel free to use them as you please and check out beepbox.co which I used to make them if you want to get your pseudo chiptune on.
Cheers
This... game is super weird. Love it! :D Could be improved by jumping/landing animations but there is always the ticking clock, right? Funny little game. And the weirdest I've played so far. Great soundtrack as well :)

Great! Weird is what I was going for @marc-grabow, almost thought I didn't make it weird enough!
quite special but fun, well done :)

Sorry, but I don't understand your game. I can't make it through the second level because that AI are snipping me as soon as I open the doors. I really tried to beat the level, but I can't.
I really like this kind of Glorious Trainwrecks-style "game looks broken, is actually thoughtfully designed". It's easily the most creative thing I've seen in this LD. But the control, physics, and AI all conspire to make it really difficult. I had to restart when I trapped myself in level 2, and I stopped after reaching the final part of level 3 only to die to that blasted cowboy's perfect aim. The enemies, as-is, aren't a good fit for the powers of my main characters, so it was a real struggle even to get that far in the level.
I would be happy to see more like this, with just a little bit easier gameplay.

Thanks for the feedback @triplefox and @backurio! Yeah it definitely has a problem with level 2 being tricky and the difficulty spiking in level 3. In hindsight it was a poor choice especially with the last level being the one that has anything to do with the theme. I had to laugh at how frustrating the last cowboy in level 3 was so I didn't have the heart to remove it but I should have taken the time to make it more manageable. Level design and balancing was something that got stuck in the time crunch, I didn't even realize that you could get trapped in level 2.

I like the retro-sih look to it and the music to match. What did you use to create the music?
The bullets are soo tiny, they can be easily missed- consider making them bigger. When I first played it, there was a black screen and I thought the game crashed while the music was playing (but it didn't). I think I pressed enter, and dialogue started. However, this was not obvious.
Its very difficult to make a polished compo game but you have created a lot of elements to this game. Well done.

Thanks @MZA, I used beepbox.co for the music and sound effects. It's simple to use and easy to throw together stuff for small projects like this. I didn't fully consider the size of the bullets and I can see how they'd be frustrating especially if someone was playing on a smaller screen. I intended to have an instruction screen but wound up relying on players button mashing. I'm glad you figured it out, I'm sure not everyone is as persistent.
