| Oct 21 17:39:40 | old-tech-recovery | ♥ 1 | Exceptionally well done! The style was well-executed and also very theme-appropriate. The humor was very much up my own alley, and the feel of everything was great. Audio was minimal but worked very well, and complemented the visuals. The art was an excellent blend of old-school visuals and conventions but with the polish and flair that modern systems enable. Wonderful entry all around - you should be proud! | |
| Oct 21 17:49:40 | 10m 00s | Old Techniques: The Last Master | ♥ 2 | Very, very cool! I've never seen a timeline editor used as an interface for a brawler before - incredibly neat choice. The polish in terms of the gameplay feel kept it from being more fun, but in terms of the idea, mechanics, and execution it was exceptional. Thematically I loved the notion of a human being considered "old technology" vis-a-vis robots and AI - a nice inversion of the obvious choice for how to interpret the jam theme. The audio and sounds were very well-matched to the game, and they blended well. Again, it's a bit of a bummer that the "feel" wasn't as well-tuned as it might have been, because otherwise this is one of the more impressive jam entries I've seen in a lot of ways. That said, our game suffers from a similar "if only we had a couple more hours" in terms of feel, and honestly that seems to be the rule rather than the exception for most jam games, so I can't fault you for it too much. All that being said, this is a great entry with a lot of polish in the look-and-feel and overall vibe - job very well done! |
| Oct 21 17:59:37 | 9m 57s | Overdub | ♥ 3 | This is really, really impressive. The puzzles required a little more brainpower than I had available while playing it, but the overall game itself is fantastic. As a technical achievement, I can't imagine how hard it was to get the mechanics and engine working as well as they do. In terms of audio, the way the music scrubbed forward/back was a SUPER cool effect, and it added a neat meta-layer to the experience in a way that I haven't seen a lot of other jam games do. The sounds were perfectly appropriate for what the game was. In terms of look and feel, things felt clean and precise, and there was a sort of melancholic-wistfulness-infused-with-hope to the overall experience that I really appreciated. It felt like it had a clear identity and sense of what it wanted to be. Very well done - one of the more polished entries I've seen for a jam game! |
