| Jul 31 18:00:06 | Out of Power | ♥ 1 | I liked the graphics and clean style you chose; It's very refreshing from the multitude of pixel-art games out there. Also, the shaders you used when you were running low on power were really cool as well and made it feel like you actually were the robot much more. Gameplay-wise, it took a while to learn that the only way of killing enemies was by rolling the ball into them, and it was kinda anooying when you fell off the map because you didn't know whether there was a platform below you or not, but other than that it was fun. Love the classic Unity physics though :) Just pushing this tire along and ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdbYsoEasio | |
| Jul 31 23:30:44 | 5h 30m | Archimedes 2029 | ♥ 0 | Veggie Tales 2.0 Confirmed? I think you can still live even if you run out of water. Also, there seems to be a limit to how far you can fall. Also, I didn't know there was gravity in space. I like the creativity. |
| Aug 1 22:17:57 | 22h 47m | Mountaintop Groovy Robot Laser Battle | ♥ 0 | I am getting a "Failed to execute script Game" error when I run the .exe, even with it renamed to remove the period. I unzipped it and followed the instructions. I wish I could play it though; the sound track sounds pretty cool! |
| Aug 6 20:22:45 | 118h 04m | No Sign Of Life | ♥ 1 | Does the particular mistake happen to be only giving the guy one pellet instead of three, and then he dies? I got to the crystal part, and learned the code, but it still said that I couldn't get in to the locked place, so I eventually died. Fun game though. I really like the atmosphere the audio gave, and the art had a common theme which was nice. Good job :) The map was also helpful, because without it I would have been wondering around for a while. |
| Aug 6 20:32:43 | 9m 58s | Power the House | ♥ 1 | I liked that there were easily-followable directions that explained how you could move things to solve the levels. Some of the bugs made it a bit confusing though: If one house is powered, are all its neighbors powered? If so, I ran into quite a few senarios in the last couple levels where only some of several adjacent houses were powered. (Did you program the power recursively?) I do like the puzzle aspect to it, though. While a bit more challenge would have been nice, it was nevertheless a cool game. |
| Aug 6 20:51:16 | 18m 33s | Dashfister | ♥ 1 | Very fun game. The movement mechanics are quite good, and the dash is very satisfying when you get a hit. I didn't realize you could wall jump until I read someone else's comment, but when I went back and played it again, I liked that mechanic as well. Graphics are very nice, and I especially like the 'clink' sound when you hit the back of the porcupine. The only suggestion I would make is that all the enemies feel very similar, especially in the brownish color scheme. The animations are very well done and the game feels especially crisp to play. Good job! |
| Aug 6 20:58:47 | 7m 31s | S.C.I.A.C.E. | ♥ 0 | I was getting an unspecified error when I tried to unzip the file. Sorry I can't play! |
| Aug 6 21:13:08 | 14m 21s | LudumsWitch | ♥ 2 | The shield is extremely helpful, and it is nice to be able to push the goblins back even after you lose it the first time. The graphics are pretty cool, and the 'die' sounds are interesting. I don't know whether it is me saying that or the goblins though... Anyway, cool game, but faster spawn rates might be helpful. Sitting there waiting for enemies gets a little boring after a while. |
| Aug 6 21:32:15 | 19m 07s | Star Slammer | ♥ 0 | Pretty cool game. I really liked how fast you could go and the star-wars-y feel of the dogfights between other ships, even though it seems to be more advantageous to the player to kind of ignore enemies for a while until several build up, and then spin around shooting to get all of them. I agree with some of the other comments that it would be nice to have the fuel be auto-collected, because it did feel like I was spending a large amount of my fuel going around and collecting what I had already destroyed. Either that or the fuel from destroyed stars should probably be worth more. Or maybe I am just bad. idk. Art was pretty good, although things got pretty repetitive with the stars in the background after a while, since they were all the same shape and size. I wasn't a huge fan of the sound, but it wasn't bad, that's for sure. The background music was probably the part I didn't really like all that much, but the sound effects were pretty cool. Game mechanics were spot-on. It defintely felt like flying in space, even though there was friction (or you slowed down over time). Without that though, things get really hard to control after a while. Good job! |
| Aug 6 21:41:34 | 9m 19s | Captain Pixel Vs The Round Invaders | ♥ 2 | Loved the angle. She was pretty great. Sometimes I feel like the day could be going better, and then an angle comes to me and gives me a shotgun. You captured that moment perfectly. Anyway, the graphics are very good with the main characters and the title screen, but the bright red and green balls kind of stick out like a sore thumb. The game was pretty fun to play, and I liked the assortment of weapons that it contained, especially the reflective spinny thing. The audio was pretty good as well. Nothing to complain about except for the constant 'uh!' the first time I played it when I was much worse at running from the red bullets. Good overall game; I enjoyed it! |
| Aug 6 21:43:44 | 2m 10s | [Unfinished] Banana-Sprites tools | ♥ 0 | Hahahaha!!! That's great! |
| Aug 6 21:44:39 | 55s | Lonesome Skies | ♥ 0 | Yeah, broken link bud. Sorry... |
| Aug 6 21:52:17 | 7m 38s | Till the last spin | ♥ 1 | I really liked the arrow rotation when you failed epicly. As other people mentioned, some sort of visual or audio cue for when you actually hit then notes correctly would have been helpful. I won't spoil them for other people, but some of the jokes in there were hilarious, especially during the beginning of the dream. Fun game!, I really enjoyed playing it. |
| Aug 6 22:10:47 | 18m 30s | Asolar | ♥ 1 | F is for Fires that burn down the whole town, U is for Uranium... BOMBS, N is for No survivors down here in the deep blue sea. There is something unexplainably fun about blowing up cities. Its hard to put your finger on it. Anyway, I really liked the concept of cellular automation in a world that is actually part of the game. Thankfully nothing like The Game of Life (Conway's of course, not the one where you have a family of kids, though that is just as bad), which is more of a simulation than a game of any sort. I was a little disappointed that you dropped out of audio, I thought the background music and explosion sounds were quite good. The graphics were pretty good, although the main character could have used a bit more detail probably. I know he is suppose to be a robber kind of person, but in the middle of the day, usually things aren't all black. The gameplay was pretty fun, and although there might have been one there and I was just too focused on getting around to notice it, a count-down bar would have been a cool thing to have to know when your next bomb would be available, at least early in the game. Towards the end, you have so many bombs that you are just using the most expensive one there is since the thing limiting you is your movement speed, not your ammunition. Anyway, this was a fun game. I spent quite a bit of time playing it :) |
| Aug 20 17:51:01 | 331h 40m | Emergency Evacuation | ♥ 1 | Cool game. I liked that it was difficult enough to be challenging, but still easy enough to win (or at least I think I won. I evacuated, so yeah). The one suggestion I have would be to direct to the help page by default because the first time I played it without reading the instructions and all the symbols were not too self-explanatory by default. |
| Aug 20 18:42:46 | 51m 45s | Super Charged | ♥ 1 | Pretty fun game, but I can't say much on the side of originality or ethics... Let's start here: The gameplay, which was probably the best part of this game, is EXTREMELY similar to an app on the app store that Starbucks gave away for free like 6 months ago or something. I get that it's a simple idea and convergent designs exist, but this one was a little close for my liking. There is one where you are a ball and you just go up when you tap and if you hit an obstacle you lose, and then there is another where you are this little guy in a rocket I think, and when you hold down your rocket flies. The gameplay is basically this game except in it you died right away when you hit an obstacle and that you could hold instead of tap. Now, most of the people rating this have probably never played that game so they think this was entirely your idea and are rating it accordingly. As far as art goes, the art would have been pretty good on its own, but it wasn't nearly as good as the game this is a clone of, so it kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth... (Also, how much of it is even yours?) And I guess that leaves us with music and sound effects. Nowhere in your description, developer update, or patch notes (which almost no one reads anyway) are there any disclaimers about art, music, or anything else. Now, I do realize that this is a jam entry, and as such the rules are a little bit less rigid, but like, come on guys. If you didn't make the music, then just opt out of the audio category! And if you aren't going to do that, at least say somewhere what you made and what you didn't! At least 3 quarters of the people who rated you for audio did so under the impression that all of the sounds were made by you during the jam. I don't know about the background music that played during the main part, but I know for sure that your background music during the main menu/shop scene is something you just downloaded from the internet. (I know because I used the exact same music in a 30 second commercial I made for a [non-LD] game over 2 years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=25&v=KTfANUbgR1E) After this, it makes me wonder what part of this game you actually did make. The particles that are created when you die is just a Unity particle system with minor changes. Nearly all of the art in the game is a recolored version of the same steel texture--a texture which, if you didn't flat out copy like your first soundtrack, is one that you probably generated with a few clicks in Gimp of Photoshop directly following a YouTube tutorial. The fire (or whatever it was suppose to be in the steel-textured triangles) looked suspiciously good for someone who only has time to draw one real texture (if that) during the entire 3-day jam. At this rate, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it were a built-in Unity particle system. Anyway, you get the point. When you submit a game, people think it is yours. If it isn't, you have to tell them that it isn't, otherwise you are screwing over all of the people that did actually make a game. Preferably, tell them by opting out of the categories that you didn't participate in, but at the very least but a disclaimer when you publish your game saying what music/art you did and did not create yourself. |
