Purple Reign – A love letter to awesome games Greatsome. Spooky, moody, rewarding and appropriately challenging. The eerily empty first few rooms add a lot.
Towerball Very cool. The presentation is great, with nice and non-annoying sounds. Difficulty is too high early on imho (I haven\'t had the patience to try and retry my way past the first level yet).
Cutting it Fine LOVE!
This is great. I played for a good half hour despite some movement glitches and me falling down through the floors over and over again. I got quite far at one point - some place outside where you had to go down to get further up, but missed a jump and fell down 4-5 floors.
The most desperately needed feature is a \"safety net\" kind of respawn point preventing you from falling more than one or two floors. Either that or designing the map so that there are solid floors here and there that you can\'t fall past (should be possible to put them in where the normal path is on the other side of the wall). Having said that, I still have some appreciation for the hardcore ruthless reality of player vs level with no artificial means of help.
The actual controls were pretty good and worked well once learned (stop in mid-air before landing to avoid sliding etc), but they glitched a bit too much to feel smooth and comfortable.
Very nice overall though, best entry I\'ve played so far. The graphics change between outside and inside helps a lot to eliminate monotonicity. I\'m glad the traps don\'t hurt in this build :P
Breaking the Tower Very very nice. I've wanted to make some kind of sim game for one of the LD's, but haven't taken the plunge quite yet. Maybe next time.
I agree about the graphics - they are very effective for the resolution used, and cute. The rotation isn't really critical to gameplay, but it adds a lot of fun diversion and variation to what could otherwise get rather boring.
Easily the most captivating game of the bunch this time, as I spent more than 40 minutes playing it (and that was just one round!)
My Am I the only one who played a game like this before? It\'s a fun viewpoint anyway. There\'s little interaction between floors in this game though, unless things get more complex later on. Admittedly I only got to the second level, as I couldn\'t quite figure out how the magnetic zones work. You can\'t jump off them, but you also seem to hover nearby to cross small gaps, but it didn\'t work every time I tried.
Escape From The Tower of DOOM Win! I love games where you can tell each level was made "for real" and with some intent rather than just being hacked up in a level editor using off-the-shelf tiles etc. Special functionality and one-off events are great to make things interesting.
I expected it to be a lot less forgiving than it actually was, too. Respawn points were an unexpected but appreciated boon.
Next time: use an in-game screenshot to represent it! I almost passed on this one because the title screen looked like a dull game ;)
Dark Tower Reminds me of N. Stylish and interesting, I always wanted to try automated level generation in a platformer. Seems to work ok here, but the enemy placement is really evil sometimes. I hate the scorpions :)
I still haven\'t survived long enough to see the entire scroller.
Cannon Hates Tower Fun sandbox. I like teleporting cannonballs into the middle of the tower with maximum velocity :P
Cat Stacker (Final Entry) Cute and pretty. Too bad about the unstable physics. Seems odd that it would deteriorate over time, even between rounds (floating point absolute timescale?). Works fine initially though, after refreshing.
The Siege of von Danken Tower I must admit that I marked this one up a bit for being a 2600 game. Was kind of fun though, but the gods were displeased with me on the third-or-so level and whipped me down with very agile lightning. Could have used some cheesy music.
Treasure Tower I beat it. Had some tricky parts, but was mostly straight-forward. Controls worked out nice, although it took me a while to figure out that running faster meant jumping higher. Ran a bit slow on my machine, but not annoyingly so. Cute graphics.
Towlr – 2 Hour Game Yay for 2-hour entries! My cake in 7. I wonder if yours is more fair than mine... at least you have enumerable input.
6hour game: Part 3 Power to the text adventures!
Tower of Doom is Complete! :D Well, it\'s a first person shooter. I beat the first two levels, but didn\'t feel up to chasing the same metal floor tiles once more. Some texture variation could have helped here, and maybe a less random enemy distribution. It would also have helped to allow simultaneous strafe+run, so you could move around more freely. Similarly, sliding against walls instead of stopping dead would be nice.
