LD45 — Start with nothing

There were 8 hours left and I decided I wanted to participate after all by Corny 2019-10-09T14:03:33Z

This is a huge feat for 8 hours work (infact I might need to see the receipts you know). Excellent and well defined look and feel and great game-ness. Well polished title overall. Although, I did find the combat to be very hard to pull off, and found myself dying in every fight, which might just be me being bad and I think I can accept that.

Aloneland by Kubeec 2019-10-09T13:28:52Z

I think Aloneland has potential and it reminds me of Don't Starve, only I think the effort made towards minimalism hinders the game as it can leave the player confused about what is actually going on, eg. Do I actually need to eat? What's my goal or motivation? Does anything advance or change over the days? In fact Im still not really sure of the answer to these questions. I understand the mystery I think you were aiming for, with it being a survival game and all, but I think this lack of feedback really prevents the game from being much more than a 'walk around and try all the buttons'-sim.

You can also lose objects by standing on the shore and throwing the object, something I did by accident quite a bit - im not going to lie. Also, as was mentioned by someone else, the movement seems floaty and you keep moving when it's paused.

I hope this feedback doesn't sound to critical, in fact I do really like the animations and art-style (although you seem to have opted-out on these categories?) and the game definitely fits the theme, I only wish more thought and work was put into the gameplay here.

Find Your Everything by Freixo 2019-10-09T13:41:22Z

Cute and interesting title, with an actually pretty creepy walk animation that I can't stop thinking about. I'm not entirely sure what I did each time to make something happen (eg, the question marks, or following me, arms-out etc), though, but maybe that counts as points for realism. It also didn't occur to me that the colour metre on the right was constantly moving until it's too late, once again, points for realism. Very cute art style that reminds me of the running animation-guy from the flipnote on the DSi. Overall, a cute little experimental game that got me thinking about a whole lot of things: cute, interesting and actually kind of sad (in a good way).

Nothing by Life_Lich 2019-10-09T14:44:31Z

I don't feel like I understand this game. The tutorial (thank you for making an effort) seems confusing and the phrasing of things aren't easy to read. There are also a number of spelling errors in the copy throughout. Other users claim to have seen some glint of a 'neat idea' here, but I was unable to see this in my number of attempts to play. The game seems to complex for you to properly articulate.

Also, I hope you don't find this offensive, but having seen your responses to comments here, you seem to generally have trouble communicating what it is you mean. I hope you take the time to work on this, as it would greatly improve your work, but also aid in making the game more accessible for all users. Accessibility is key in any project/product but even more essential in a game jam of this scale, where your submission is one of many thousands. Many users will simply not have the patience to make repeated attempts at simply learning how to play. I apologise if you think this is overly harsh, but I feel it is necessary constructive critique of your submission.

@nightcrawler9001 Thank you for this! I thought I was being smart by keeping everything private till submission hour, but not smart enough to set it public lol. It's been fixed now though! I hope you enjoy the game and good luck with your ratings.

@the-blue-hatted Thank you for trying to play my game lol! I've been trying to sort this out since I saw your comment and I believe it is because I didn't ship with openal32.dll, and this just straight up crashes out. If you can please install OpenAL (for audio) [here](https://www.openal.org/downloads/oalinst.zip) you may need to restart. Otherwise I'll be publishing a fix very soon to let you play without audio :(. Many thanks.

@raphiell Thank you. I can't believe things like this get thru testing lol, I've added a fix (a single-line fix) to the repo for a post-compo version if that ever comes to fruition. Also, haha very much :eyes:.
