LD57 — Depths

Captain Peggles: That Man's Chest by Sheepolution 2025-04-12T22:43:57Z

This game may be relatively small in scope, but the art and sound design are absolutely polished and delightful. The level of creativity is impressive, and the overall experience was great.

The voice acting added a lot of charm, and the character selection screen at the beginning was really fun. The core gameplay itself is also quite innovative — it all comes together to make a really fantastic game!

The game reloaded due to high memory usage, but it was a really fun experience! Especially toward the late game when I collected a bunch of power-ups — the feeling of triple-shot rapid fire was incredibly satisfying. Such an enjoyable game, thank you!

I think this game has so much potential — the art and UI are really well done. The starting interface felt smooth and polished, and I especially loved the moment when the instructions slid away as the character started walking — everything up to entering the drill area felt great.

However, I ran into some major confusion with the gameplay. At first, the "Stop" button on the drill didn’t seem to do anything, so I assumed the drill couldn’t be stopped once it was turned on. It wasn’t until I read the comments that I realized it was possible to stop it. After that, I kept trying to toggle it off, went up to the second level, pressed the blue button, and finally managed to stop it. I picked up a black item and reached what seemed to be the correct room — but once inside, I had no idea how to leave.

A similar issue happened on my third playthrough — I made it to a water tunnel, picked up the water, brought it to the right room, but got completely stuck at the "Open Fuel Tank" step. No matter what I tried, nothing worked, which was really frustrating.

The visuals and sound design are great, but I hope these gameplay issues can be fixed. It would also be really helpful if players continued to receive clear instructions after reaching the first tunnel and picking up an item — I think this would make the experience much more intuitive and enjoyable.

Interesting game! I did find myself getting lost quite easily, but the art was nicely done. I think the overall experience could be even better with a few more distinct interactive elements to help guide or engage the player.

I spent a little over an hour playing this game, and so far — it’s my favorite of the jam! The randomly generated map design is amazing — I absolutely love that sense of exploration. The overall progression feels super rewarding, and the monster design is fantastic. There’s a clear difficulty curve that works really well — the gold mine enemies were tough, but in a really fun way.

I also really appreciate how each upgradeable item significantly impacts gameplay. That kind of meaningful choice makes the game feel incredibly well-designed.

Another thing I really loved was the UI feedback on the right side — seeing what action I took and why it didn’t work was so helpful. It made it easy to understand what I could and couldn’t do, which is something many other jam games didn’t communicate as clearly — but your design totally nailed it.

Honestly, this has been the most satisfying gameplay experience I’ve had so far. I’m an artist (both 3D and 2D),If you ever need an artist for a future game jam, feel free to reach out,I’d love the chance to collaborate with you!

Hi! I just played the game again and finally got close to the ending — it's really fun! 🥰 However, I noticed something strange that might be a bug:

I entered a room earlier that originally had three types of monsters, and at the time, I knew I couldn't defeat them, so I ran away. Later, after upgrading all my equipment, I came back to clear that room — but this time, there were only two slimes left. Even after defeating the slimes, the treasure chest stayed locked.

I remember earlier while digging tunnels, I did encounter one of the monsters from that room outside of it (I think it came from there), but now, no matter how many times I circle back, I can't find the missing monster anywhere. So I'm kind of stuck — I can't open the chest because I can't defeat all the original monsters in that room.

Just wanted to let you know in case it's something worth checking. Thanks again for the awesome game!图像2025-4-12 23.00.jpeg

Beneath the Ground by drFoxxx 2025-04-12T20:59:14Z

The instructions felt a bit confusing, though the visual style was quite nice. I think it would help a lot if each prompt or instruction had a semi-transparent white background behind it — that would improve readability.

I still wasn’t sure how to complete the first task. Even though there were a lot of instructions, I found myself feeling lost and uncertain about what to do… instruction 有点乱,风格不错,但是如果能每段提示背后有个半透明小白框就好了。我还是没搞明第一个task应该怎么做,虽然instruction很多,但是感觉还是很困惑。。。

The art in this game is absolutely beautiful! At first, I wasn’t quite sure which objects were interactive. I tried interacting with some special-looking items, but nothing happened — and then I got killed by the fish.

On my second try, I learned to hide inside the boat, but whenever the fish approached, it would bug out and clip into the boat. Once it was stuck like that, I’d die as soon as I stepped outside. Despite that, the overall experience was still really interesting.

On my third try, I finally realized I was supposed to go right, not left. Going right triggered the parts of the boat that were missing a medkit or oxygen, and I found supplies like those on the right side. Using the flashlight to search for items and then using them to repair the boat made the gameplay feel much more complete.

Later, I ran into the giant fish again — it got stuck in my boat and wouldn’t leave. Just as I reached what looked like an important control panel and was about to grab something, I stepped out and died.

Still, the experience was a lot of fun, and the art was truly fantastic. Keep up the great work!
