LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Aster Defense by emrod 2022-04-05T19:07:27Z

The concept, art, and sound design are really nice. I love the scale of the game world, and that you can feel the thought put into potential strategies - eg, putting radars and shields on alternating layers. I felt the gameplay was a bit too easy, though. I got to the point where I don't think I could lose quite quickly. It would be nice if the difficulty ramped up faster, or if there was a way to 'fast forward' waves like in a tower defense game.

This is one of the coolest concepts I've seen. I loved the layout of the ship and the various bizarre systems. The mood is fantastic.

This is very zen, I like it a lot.

Whoa! It's like a space game or something! by circle 2022-04-05T17:34:09Z

That's a lot of depth for such a short time! It gave me flashbacks to an old black and white space trading game I played as a child. I liked the humor, sound effects, and space combat. Trading was a bit difficult because of fuel and money not being shown on the mining and selling screens.

Just fantastic. I have criticisms, but addressing almost any of them would take the game further from the theme. The only real gameplay issue is that the targeting of your cuts is not always clear - it'd be nice to have a highlight on the branch that you're cutting.

@circle Thank you for your comment. I got this idea from this art installation by Sun Yuan and Peng Yu https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZS4Bpr2BgnE I would have liked to include the frantic machine sound effects, but I did not have time to learn the sound API of the framework.

@willoxs Thank you for the feedback -- I was hoping that wasn't possible. Initially I had it perfectly in-line, but it seemed like I could never suck up enough oil to make it worthwhile, so I fudged it such that you leak 150% of the oil you lose. I guess that was too much!
