LD55 — Summoning

Air Fried Ice by MadR 2024-04-21T18:51:46Z

A pleasing aesthetic with the music and art-style. Gives a nice mood as if you're playing with friends in a cosy setting. The placement of the creature icons into the bottom left of the card had the summoning aspect lost on me slightly before I saw the animations bringing them out. Maybe moving the icons to the centre of the cards would draw people's eyes in more to the creatures themselves instead of just focusing mainly on the element types.

Enjoyed the premise of the game and a decent variety in the summons and upgrade paths.

Music and sound was nicely balanced enough that I wanted to keep playing but the premise of the game being around clicking meant that there was a limit on my playtime decided entirely by my finger's fatigue XD

Fun combat and strategy system and interesting art-style.

Some of the tutorial presentation could've been staged a little gentler. The music is really nice in terms of writing but the levels are a bit high for the more intense parts of the in game loop, the lower freq levels in the menu music were also very strong and overwhelming for headphones.

Overall a good experience though!

Interesting visual design and premise. However there are a few small areas of oversight that have a knock on effect for the game. Things like diagonal movement and lack of feedback elements for hit registration have already been mentioned.

However there are other things missing like a method to return to the menu or close the game. And also continuous attacks from enemies, currently it seemed that enemies would only deal damage once upon reaching the player's collision model but then they would essentially just act as a buffer from further enemies since they didn't continue attacking.

Overall a decent premise that could really shine with some further polish.

Overall a decent set of ideas and mechanics. The puzzles were decently interesting enough.

However the lack of audio feedback and background music did make it so that the moments of frustration while solving the puzzles was kinda magnified.

Managed to get up to the dragon though couldn't figure out how to beat him XD

I reached 1441, you guys were smoking something when cooking this up!

The concept is something I can grasp but as mentioned the balance and state of completion mean that it's a bit difficult to keep up with some events and such.

However the appeal of this sort of insanity is pretty fun.

Oh also the volume sliders in the menu seem to work on an exponential or log scale rather than linear, (there's a big drop in levels after a slider is brought to around 60%).
