LD30 — Connected Worlds

Heart Star by AdventureIslands 2014-08-27T21:28:00

Very nicely polished. Fairly solid mechanics, but spikes seemed equivalent to non-existent blocks, so kind of pointless. I think the level design could have done with more work. Some obstacles were resolved on the necessary route to the platform, so weren't really obstacles at all.

The effect of one world moving with the other stationary was very nice. Everything worked together to create a really nice mood, especially the music. I felt the top-character movement felt a little slidy with its walk cycle, though. Shame you couldn't do more - I imagine you could make something really interesting.

Another lovely game :)
Music was just right, art was just right, writing was just right.
I felt the text was a bit difficult to read, and sometimes it went off screen, but I think that's my only real complaint.

Our World by Loren 2014-08-30T00:39:00

Nice idea. I like exploration games, reminded me of noctis and curiosity. I felt like the starting points were too low - often i could at most dig one tile in front of me per iteration. I might have missed something, though.

Planet Sweeper by pansapiens 2014-08-30T03:04:00

Very pretty, nice concept. Unfortunately mouse clicks are mirrored on the x axis for me, so it was very difficult to play. I don't know if this was to strengthen ties to battleship, or if it's a bug, but it doesn't seem to add anything to me.

This was absolutely beautiful. I loved the graphics, music dialogue, and the mood of the world they created.
I found the actual interface quite confusing. It took a long time to work out goods for sale were on the bottom (to be honest, I think I expected it to be the other way around). It sometimes seemed unclear whether I'd actually traded anything or just picked up a new thing, replacing it. It was also unclear where a town hitbox is - I'm guessing it's on the town itself, not its icons.
The gameplay was mostly solid, but the turning arc of the ship was just large enough that you could fail to hit a town you wanted to trade with, going around in a disappointing circle. Using fuel as currency and health was a very neat decision, I think.
It would have been nice to have a "skip intro" button on a second playthrough, as that's quite a lot of dialogue to have to click through. On that topic, there's a bug when skipping dialogue, clicking multiple times during a transition will apply to the same dialogue, restarting it, instead of skipping the next one.
I was impressed with the vocal harmonies, using assonance and dissonance to give the game an epic quality it would have otherwise lacked.
Overall, very nice game :)

Road Rage by ChuiGum 2014-08-30T03:14:00

Having a delay before registering the shoot key isn't a great idea - it foiled my trial-and-error attempt to control the game. Switching lanes was painfully slow, and looked quite weird - might have been better to only slightly rotate the car, if at all. I like the art style a lot, and really dig the music, but it gets a bit too busy towards the end with the pad.

Really like the take on the theme. Also reminds me of IGTCED, but the other way round. The soundtrack was pretty fire - the static noise made me check my headset :P

Icarus Crisis by rojo 2014-08-28T00:36:00

This is very cool. If I have one suggestion, it's to constrain the camera so the map is always on screen. Not that it really matters :P. I liked the parallax effects a lot.

Post Apocalyptic Postman by AmmoreChicks 2014-08-30T03:08:00

Nice simple game. One complaint I have is that if you move right and then left too quickly, it will place you left of your starting point. Also, the icons you used for arrow keys were ambiguous - looked like angular brackets.

Universe Connector by SK16 Games 2014-08-30T02:17:00

Nice little game. Suffers the classic problem of resource-over-time games that without some balancing factor, it's just a matter of time rather than strategy. To play, I just upgraded resources until the cost was greater than that of a spaceship. Alternatively, I could have made a cup of tea. Nice audio, but the loop was a little too short.

nanoTransit by intersectiongames 2014-08-30T02:43:00

Very nice graphics. I loved the title screen. Impressive array of mechanics/animations, but having no decceleration makes everything feel very jagged. I felt the music was nice but didn't seem particularly appropriate to the game?

Captain Spelunker by jobo 2014-08-28T13:03:00

I played it to the end, and that is more than can be said about most LD games.

Hamster Run by scriptblocks 2014-08-30T02:35:00

The sound was incredibly annoying. I liked the map, but the number of collectibles was too large, movement too slow, and occasionally skippy.

Converged by gnx 2014-08-30T00:40:00

Really like the music. The gameplay was super-hard to get the hang of - the "snap-and-shoot" AI was pretty challenging. I killed myself with ricochet a lot :P
