LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Alea iacta est by LucasMolina 2017-12-13T20:05:37Z

Neat little management game. Took a while to get going for me, since it was not clear what the goal was (or is, still, really, but I just decided to run for offices). Seems you get really high stats for winning cases at court, more so than running for offices, which seems a bit odd? When my oratory was high enough, I just kept winning court cases and grew insanely in a short span of time, and then I could be in office almost every year after that. Would like some variety or some events or throughline to what you were doing (and a reason to do anything other than court cases) but otherwise a neat little thing.

Loot of the Cursed Dungeon by KennysPineapple 2017-12-13T20:21:53Z

pretty cool idea. I didn't know at first what the books were, and just picked them up and then looked at my inventory and went like.. "oh no.." At first the effects seemed subtle, but then it suddenly got insanely hard (around when I picked up the second agro book, I think). The controls could use some work, though. Would have liked to be able to shoot diagonally (or at least that the latest pressed key took precedence), and the enemies weren't terribly interesting. And there seemed to be some reload or something? the gun stopped shooting occasionally, but without a sound or anything to indicate it, it was a little annoying to keep track of.

Really solid platformer! The controls and feel is on point and the level design is really neat (the transparent blocks especially are used in some clever ways throughout). One super minor thing that caused me to lose a lot to an early level was the amount of jump you get when bouncing on the small enemies felt too small. I kept thinking I could use it to bounce to the next platform, and then just.. fell instead. Might've made it feel more fluid to jump across on the enemies.

A strange mental disorder by Lukesta 2017-12-24T14:06:48Z

Pretty nice game with a good core. The spells were in general pretty fun to use (especially that special one), and a good variety in enemies. Some minor gripes were that the character would stop moving for a split second when shooting which doesn't feel good--even if it was intentional, it just makes the combat feel stilted. The visual style and particles were hit and miss for me and seemed to be all over the place, and while each of them were good, they seemed to be quite different and not really mesh together well--maybe also intentional! The visual effects in the landscape were really cool though and caught me by surprise!

Ghost Drifter by groverburger 2017-12-22T16:48:03Z

This is really well designed! The core mechanic is brilliant and the controls are great. Love how it balances out your increased knowledge of the map and skill with the controls with the constant increasing difficulty of keeping up with yourself. The adding boost pads as well are a clever way to manage a previous excellent run. It's tutorialised well too! The only thing it needs is audio and a lot of graphical juice and things, then this could be really neat

Kamycrazy: A post-post-apocalyptic game by kyuni 2017-12-10T14:15:11Z

This game really got me! The mood is fantastic, highlighted by the sentences appearing one at a time, and the grim prospect of it. I really enjoyed it! And the line "There's always a neighbour. Their grass is always greener" is... oof. Really good. Great job!

Itch.io link is broken! :(

Arcanum Darkened by PyroVx 2017-12-22T17:05:03Z

This is a pretty cool! It's a great idea and it was a lot of fun to try to not hit people with spells :) Won on my third try with 177 kills (still sounds like a lot!) One comment is that I could use some more feedback when the arcane power is close to reaching max, as I lost the first two times because I didn't pay attention and suddenly had too much. Another thing which you might want to look at for balance was I found a good trick was to spam a gascloud and a bunch of fireballs or other spells in the same area, because while the gascloud was there, people were going to die anyway, and so the others spells didn't matter--just to bring down my power.

Yeah, as the one above said, you need to add the Data folder along with the .exe in a zip or something! :)

@dodormeur Hm that sounds strange.. Can you provide a bit more info? It should just work from the get-go, and words should appear in the bottom when you type as soon as you launch it. When you press enter does it remove the text? Or does literally nothing happen?

@vfabien21 Thank you so much! Those are really kind words. That was exactly what I was going for, so I'm very glad it worked :D
