It took me some time to grasp it, but once I did, I really enjoyed it. The graphics are impressive, and the game fits the theme very well. Good job!
Interesting little worker placement game idea in desperate need of quality of life features (I don't enjoy needing to alt+f4 out of a game, and there really needs to be a volume slider or mute toggle). The art is very well done and the main music loop is very cute and fitting, but the sound effects are a bit random and can be grating. Solid attempt for what's there, wish the game play and qol met the level of polish the graphics got.
Interesting idea and nice execution. I feel the sounds and music were good but perhaps too loud. I wish you could determine the time of day from the background sky and perhaps get a warning when trouble is coming.
I agree the game could have a exit button or something and audio settings.
Good work.
We totally agree with you @karkadan @coderaurus. In this jam we tried to create a more complex game just to challenge us and, even if we are happy with what we did, there's a lot of things we would like to add or change. Thank you all for your feedback! :)
Not sure if I could send my warrior bees against that pesky kid with a stick, but I certainly wanted to!! I guess this kind of games need a ton of ways to keep the user knowing about what's happening, at least I missed a lot of feedback. I see the idea working - and you could even try turning it into a Roll&Write game at some point!
An immersive experience with a clever theme interpretation and visuals that shine. God Job!
Really nice artwork and animations. It took me several tries to figure out how to play the game; due to poor luck (getting wacked by a kid several times) and not understanding which bees were which, I lost within about 30 seconds. Once I got the hang of it, it was pretty fun. More clarity on what is happening when you get attacked, when your bees eat for the day, and where they are spawning would be helpful.
A really fun game! I'll speak highly of the graphics and the mechanics of strategy.
It was fun to get into the rhythm of sending out the Explorer bees and turning them back into Worker bees at night to protect them. I'm not sure I ever totally figured out what the other bees did. I just had a single Warrior and a single Drone at most times, in case they were helpful somehow.
In my winning playthrough I didn't see the bear a single time. Perhaps having a Warrior kept the bear away? If so, I guess they were pretty critical to winning, as I was generating enough wax to only hold off a handful of bear attacks. I wasn't sure however if I would need more than one warrior to hold off the bear -- it seemed like they all died anytime the kid attacked so I just kept one.
The overnight effects seemed to maybe not work perfectly? I remember one time the effect was that warriors would eat more, but during that day, although the pre-existing warrior ate more nectar, any new warriors I created ate the normal amount. The hungry warrior also seemed to have -5 to whatever task it was assigned to, so I just put it on the Explorer duty (and it sadly froze... not totally intentional! I was having difficulty keeping my explorers alive until basically the 9th night).
In any case I do think it's funny that I came to really appreciate the Explorer bees and be quite sad that they kept freezing. The variety of kinds of bee roles plus their varying impact on the gameplay definitely made for an engaging experience, I think!
It was also satisfying when I did manage to keep my bees alive and was able to make my overall bee army a bit bigger. Waking up in the morning with a huge set of bees felt quite good.
All in all I think the gameplay was pretty solid, and it was enjoyable to play through. Nice job!
Hard to understand at first but then I find it very clever! A bit hard, I didn't manage to reach to 10th day, but still a fun game. Great art (although it was a bit blurry, camera or filtering settings ?), thank you for this entry!
(very fun touch to have an interactable main menu!)
