wow those vibes are something forgotten! really interesting approach
I downloaded and tried running both RUNME scripts but neither did anything.
Gave me some atari vibes (xD yes I'm that old haha) good entry friend!
Simple but really entertaining and nostalgia inducing game! I'm completely blown away by the development tools chosen, I will be checking the source code because I find it really interesting! There was one level where the player seemed to have a shorter jump, after playing the rest of the game I understood this was a level specific thing, as in "work with what you have" sort of thing, is that right?
@travh98 : are you running windows or linux? For linux, the RUNME.sh script is faulty, due to the windows end of lines :/ However I've added web version, a little laggier than native run, but you can give it a try :)
@streq : yes! Every level can have a different gravity (you can check lvl* files, they are text), I wanted to make more levels using different values, but didn't have enough time for that. So I only applied it to one level, because it had to be a tutorial-like series. Thanks for playing, if you would like to know more about development, don't hesitate to ask me here or on the github!
@roberto-romao : you are not old, you are just retro :D I'm glad that there are people that could feel the nostalgia I wanted to insert into this game ;)
enjoyable atari feel... sounds remind me of old school games. nice job
This is really cool! I didn't expect to see a game that could work on DOS in this jam. The clunkiness of the controls makes it feel a lot like an old retro game. It does leave a lot to be desired though. Nice work regardless!
This is fantastic, love that you managed a DOS game, will definitely being trying on one of my old systems at one point, took me a bit to get used to the level specific gravity, but great accomplishment getting this in the compo great work!
An unexpected entry, but a welcome one! Nice mechanics, some tense moments. Can't really appreciate the code under the hood as I'm not a programmer myself, but you made me wonder... how we used to tolerate such sounds for prolonged periods of time when we played stuff like this on 486 and such, lol.
Great job, anyway!
@nicekot : I think that the sound from the PC speaker wasn't very different from all other sounds made by the computers of that era. Remember how loud were fans, HDDs and floppies? Even the CRTs were buzzing :) Thanks for playing and commenting!
Nice game, I really like the graphics! I feel like physics and especially the jumping could have been smoother, but a nice game overall!
@cybek yeah, the sound of turning on a very old PC is a powerful one. It gives you a sense of powering up a MACHINE. We even used such sound in our entry for LD49, hehe.
Good job!
