Nice, solid start for an RTS here. Good tutorial and the controls were pretty straightforward to use, though I would've preferred to be able to single click on a unit to select it, having to do box select for everything felt a little tedious. The main issue was the lack of pathfinding for units - units would get stuck on level geometry or buildings pretty often which made it really hard to move them around the map. (Technically it was possible to brute force units through obstacles though.) If you added pathfinding I think the game would be a lot more fun. Lots of potential here though, nice work!

Doing an RTS like this is SUPER ambitious for Ludum Dare. There's a good amount of content here for a jam and, even though there's definitely some balancing issues, this feels WAY better than I'd expect from a jam game entry with this kind of scope. Some issues with troop movements aside, this was pretty fun. I ended up forcing my way through walls to get to enemy units quicker, but I just chalk that up to having an army of super soldiers.

Nice game, particularly like the tutorial. Think this is the first game in LD52 I've come across with one

Nice solid RTS game with tutorial, multiple levels and multiple units. Excellent job indeed. However, I feel like considering the pathfinding issues, the map sizes should've been much smaller to allow for a smoother gameplay experience and let us focus more on the positives of your game rather than the issues. Also, the differences between the missions wasn't large enough for me to play all of them as it just felt like the same mission but with more complex map and more enemies. So, personally I would have preferred if the game only had 2 or 3 levels but more polish. Super great work for a jam nonetheless ^_^

Nice start on an RTS! I really liked that you added in a tutorial otherwise I would have been completely lost. Really would have liked to be able to single click to select one unit instead of having the group select, this was annoying when I had three workers highlighted because they were overlapping each other and they each built the same building in the same spot. Pathfinding issues were also really annoying, my units kept getting stuck on things though I found out you could just keep clicking to climb mountains or roll over trees though I doubt that was intended. Also wasn't completely clear on the actual goal, I destroyed the enemy's base but nothing happened.

Rare to see a full rts! Ambitious job. Unfortunately the issues with controls and pathfinding hold it back. As said earlier, less mission and more polish in game mechanics would have done wonders. Superb job anyways!

So making an RTS for a jam is really ambitious like everyone said, and its amazing that you got this much done! And the inspiration from warcraft+starcraft games, and that terran marine death sound brings a lot of good nostalgia.. :)) That being said, you order a portion of nitpicking from the chef, so here it comes!

***Small(jam versions) nitpicks:***

-Unless the install version has something unique compared to the zip one, id say its better to just remove it since its a bit confusing!

-Add so that the Escape gets you back to the main menu instead of quitting the game. Since once the player starts the mission he has to finish it or reload the game.

-The F1,F2,..,F12 keys these days are commands for laptops so they are unusable in a way.

-The 2nd mission where you need to gather 5000 resources shouldnt have red crystals in it, since getting your hands on one also means that you finished the mission in a way. So just having only trees and a few blue minerals here and there feels more balanced.

***Big(post-jam versions):***

-The collision boxes for units should be a bit smaller. Without a fully polished movement system this will help a lot with moving around the map..

-Look into the A* search algorithm, it takes a bit of time to understand it but once you do its a really good way of making AI movement in most games! I know there was a really good tutorial on "The Cherno" YT channel but it was in Java so i dont know if that helps. Also its good because i see that you made a map using a grid system which means you already have a great base for it!

-The A* system is also great for AI that fights back!

***Extra:*** I saw you did a lot of similar games like this during the jams. So my advice is to try and reduce the scope of your projects, or joining a longer jam so that you have enough time to really make the game you wanted! :)) These are all great basis, but making a full RTS is impossible in the short span that is given for LD. So maybe make some hybrids by cutting out certain parts out, like Legion TD, Tooth and tail, They are billions etc... Good luck i hope i get to see another strategy game from you in the jam to come!

I have to say its really impressive that you managed to make an RTS for ludumdare! Massive Kudos! I had this annoying bug when i built a barracks where the game would just crash, but then after a few tries it suddenly it worked?

Otherwise i know it was mentioned in the other comments, but it really reminds me a lot of warcraft 2! gives off the same vibes and feel! (i mean this in the best way!)

Great job dude!
