Pretty solid game, I would say the best improvement you could make would be to allow for rapid fire shots. If holding down the arrow key shot bullets nonstop, and the enemies took significantly more shots to die, the fun factor would greatly improve.
A little hard since you an only shoot up (I couldnt figure out a way to shoot in any other direction) I would add that you shoot in the direction of the mouse cursor.
Good init ideas, polish it.

This game is pretty cool, I liked the mechanics, and it felt quite complete for a Ludum Dare game. I would like to see some music in the game, but I understand the extreme limitations on time. It would also be cool to be able to shoot repetitively, as some people have already said, and be able to aim with the mouse. Good job though.
