both of the URLs (win and web) leads to dropbox. put your web version to the public folder uncompressed.
not very fun, but worth a few tries...
Arts & animations are nice looking but the rest is for now not very good. The game engine needs more work hit boxes are glitched and the fights are not currently interesting for the player. Good luck working on it.
@K55 I don't understand. Explain?
@cstudios I put the files uncompressed in a public folder, is that correct? I'm a bit new to all this.
@dancingmad Why is it not fun? Please elaborate.
@SoulGame Thank you. I know it's (very) far from perfect. Always looking to improve. The hitboxes are a bit off because they scale off the sprites and the sprites themselves ended up being a bit too big. I could've gone with pixel perfect collisions or just make the hitboxes much smaller, in retrospect. What would you add to make the fights more interesting?
Thanks for the comments so far. I'm still very new to this, and just wanted to make a game for Ludum Dare for the first time ever. I'd like to properly reply to you guys, but have no idea how to. Sorry!
Hi there. Web link just goes to a download folder display, should go to something which runs in browser. Not rated yet.
@mrexcessive Thanks for the info, you da real mvp.
World 10, 85 ninjas down. I feel this game would go better if it were harder earlier and really stressed you into wanting those power ups.
Sorry, don't mean to double comment. Long day. Good to see a beat-em-up in here. With tighter hit boxes and a harder difficulty curve this game could be pretty damn cool.
@2HitMatt Thanks for the feedback! Appreciate it. I've been wanting to make a beat-em-up for the longest time but never got around it. Until now I guess. There's an updated version up on Game Jolt. It has better hitboxes and a few minor changes to power ups and enemies to make it a little more interesting! http://gamejolt.com/games/action/adventures-of-captain-spook/33459/
Too bad you wasn't able to get the BGM to work properly but this was pretty fun to play. You should definitely go and develop this further into a full adventure with bosses and everything (like Final Fight, Double Dragon etc.). Maybe add some controller support as well (because I would love to play this on my arcade stick old school style).
@Xanjos The BGM would've made a big difference! I think it was an issue with the file format. My debugger started complaining when trying to load .mp3 files, so I converted to a more MonoGame friendly version (.wma). BGM worked fine when debugging, but when I tried to build a release version, the game crashed the same way it did with mp3 files! So I tried changing a few options in the converter, and looked around the net, but nothing really worked.
Yeah, controller support is mandatory! I was also thinking about adding more enemies (like 2-3 new ones), each with a few special abilities they would use from time to time. And then each enemy could have a chance to spawn as a champion or an elite monster, with increased stats and abilities, kind of like Diablo-style. Sort of like random minibosses. Then something like really big act bosses at the end of stage 10, 20 and 30 or something. Also, the player having more than one button to mash would probably be more interesting!
