Didn't feel spacey at all.. Felt more like a quad slowly going through void cake. Ran out of fuel really easily, didn't have enough to get the package and return. No fullscreen option but for XNA I can understand, even though the screen was actually bigger than my resolution. Sounds were too loud, had to turn down the volume a lot.
If this is your first game, keep on keeping on. You have a lot to do still, but this is getting somewhere! Try to add acceleration to your ship now ;)
I agree entirely, I'll actually be surprised if anyone finishes it (yes, you can find home) I simply ran out of time as I was passing out on my desk, it does have a heap of items in the game to collect (like fuel drops) but I was never able to stick a loop in their to place them. It is my first game, I'm more of a application developer then games, I spent way to much time doing bad graphics.. And about the sounds, i hate the xna audio engine, i usualy re-write a sound engine using the direct-x dll's..Either way, thanks for the feedback.
I quite enjoyed it. Yeah, the graphics are simple, but I think you have a very solid idea here. Some comments:
* The fuel consumption vs income is brutal. I completed about 5 or 6 missions and had to refuel twice without any income. This meant I had not money to repair and died on the battle mission. Suggestion: make "w,s" accelerate, not move, this would give the opportunity to use some skill to save fuel.
* The ship was faster than the shots! If I traveled in the direction I was shooting, I the shots would come back!
* The text for the quests was too tiny, you might want to make it a bit bigger, and maybe display it on the center of the screen.
* The compass was a great addition, but it was not very accurate.
* When I died, the game did not let me restart :-(
Thanks for the Timelapse, it was fun watching it!
Quite nice. It would be alot better if ship movement would be smoother and if you would get money from quests to be able to fuel up and repair more often.
Got a bit impatient having to travel so far to some arbitrary x/y coordinate... brings back awful memories of Far Cry 2.
I made it home \o/
The market system feel a bit dull. You start with 100, you can't make this amount go up. So the whole market would have been replaced with spatial gaz station, as blackhole surfer are pretty useless if you don't want to get lost, you don't get enough money for weapon upgrade and cargo expender are pretty useless.
Maybe simple rop/wreck salvaging and a final planet far far away would have make the market worthwhile.
And a four direction movement will help a lot for fighting.
