Hey Matt, thanks for the game. I liked the controls, their response, and the transitions between map rooms. I hope next time you have more time to complete what you were aiming for!
Some pointers:
1- Put your files in a folder in your zip! It is a little thing, but it is annoying if I have to create a folder so that your files wont spill in the directory.
2- The collision box for the character is a bit too big. Sometimes it was really hard to get him to take a turn in a T-junction.

1- Sorry xD, will try that next time.
2- Oh god, I can't believe I didn't notice that... That's embarassing, haha

Nice work, you shouldn't sell yourself so short. I am sure everyone has things they wished they had gotten to, it's the nature of the competition, but I found your entry a lot of fun! I got both endings. :P Well done.
The control, collisions and scrolling is good, the little character gfx and animation too. Trying to avoid the fast red square was challenging but fun, It was just a pain when you have to restart far from it and walk all your way back to your death point. More respawn points or easy challenge on you way to more difficult zone could have help.
I would have liked to see more enemies and more use of the paint blocks, but what's here is good.
