Amusing little game. Don't see a way to restart after I die though. Looks a bit unfinished.

rockdtben 2010-12-20 07:56

Well there isn't a way to restart besides closing and opening again. I was going to add that feature, but I wasn't up to it.

Thanks for playing!

A good little concept, with the short-range scan preventing you getting complacent. A bit too unfinished - many of the enemies stayed black even when scanned (though apparently could be treated as male in that they weren't rage-inducing when killed). A score counter would have been nice, or some way of winning the game (I didn't find a way, at least; they seem to just keep appearing). A bit more works on fixes and features and this will be great - I hope you continue to work on it.

Thank you for your review. I really like the input, it helps me see where I can improve.

[Mechanics]
There is a birth cycle every 5 seconds. The amount of males, females, and neutered born every 5 seconds depends on the amount of males and females. The black ones are neutered furbs so the scanner doesn't declare them as male or female... it is not a bug it just wasn't explained properly. If you look through the source code you would see them labeled as "neutered". [/Mechanics]

[Win Condition]There is a way to win the game. If you kill all the furbs you win. Since the birth rate is determined by the amount of males and females, IF you kill off all the females then there will be no babies and the males will calm down from their rage because they have nothing left to fight for.[/Win Condition]

From my understanding of your comment, a better explaination or instructions on how to play the game would help. Am I understanding you correctly?

I appreciate your feedback on adding a score counter. I will keep it in mind for my next LD.

"A good little concept, with the short-range scan preventing you getting complacent." Thank you very much.

Ah, that's interesting. Yes, improved in-game instructions would be good.

Fuzzy little spies, we loved them so ;P

I tried a few times and still can't beat the game :/
But the concept is neat and I had a lot of fun.

Population grows too fast and sometimes I didn't discovered if they were male or female, like scan was not working :(. Also, it moves slow, and I needed a way to restart the game without having to close it and open it again.

The game sucks a bit right now xD but I really like the game concept.

My virus scanner blocks the download (PAK_Generic.001). Probably false positive.

rockdtben 2010-12-31 16:56

I just read this

"This is the Trend Micro detection for possibly malicious executable files that are compressed using Win32 compression tools. This proactive detection also includes appending viruses found in the wild."

They say its a proactive scan result.

Nice idea!
It lacks a bit in implementation though. For one, the population grows too fast. Even if you know what you're doing you just cannot keep up. A score counter would be very nice.
And restart after you died.

Not your fault, but how the hell is java able to run on all platforms but cannot cope with spaces in file names/folders? Of course the game won't run if it's dropped on the desktop (Documents and Settings).
