Too hard
This seems to be great for a very specific niche propably, for me it was just too annoying to play to explore more of the game. The visuals and audio work a super nicely done and this feels like a polished game. I love the idea in theory but I just do not have patience to experiment and play with the cards enough to keep playing, but i see that the execution is great otherwise.
Yayy love the super cute visuals, and cute music as well! The controls take practice but it was definitely enjoyable once I figured it was from top to bottom and you could **undo the holes** haha
Awesome entry!
Great idea for the theme, programming games are great! It'd be nice if once you discovered a piece of paper if 1) that you had a directory in the game to reference (yes, pen and paper work too), but also 2) if I could see the map again after stopping there. 😅 I really wanted to just edit cards directly without having to stop the machine again and fiddle with the switches. I wonder if it'd be easier if you just had the punchcard strip on the left, and showed the execution in line with each line of the punch, then allow the player to just move the reader back to the top to start again, kind of simplify the loop. It'd be great to see how easy it'd be for students to pick this up. Really interesting, thanks!
@prunus-padis I can see that yeah. The machine being kinda laborious to use is part of the fun for me (tho the UX could be improved), but I think the minigame isnt the best fit in insight. Should ve went for something that needed less inputs and/or less trial and errors. Thanks for the feedback. !
@mikeware I actually wanted to do your first point, but ran out of time sadly. For your second point, I do like that you have to stop the machine and try again, that's how the machine should feel imo. But the minigame shouldnt ask you as much inputs and as much back and forth I believe, which would achieve kind of the same goal. Thanks for playing!
This is crazy good. My first idea was a punch card game to move a robot, but I gave up with it. I really love coding games and this one is goooood! I see great potential. Graphics is awesome, sounds are nice. Just nice work, probably game is not for everyone, but I like it. Nice job!
@sanechekz I'm glad you like it! Ahah that would have been interesting to compare our different approaches. Yeah the game is harder to get into than I would have like to so it's indeed kind of niche, but it takes so much time to improve things on this aspect that I had to stop at some point. Something to work on for next time. Thanks for playing!
Man, that was great! Mood of old machine, visuals, super well made. It only didn't occur to me to guess binary of letters (don't want to spoil, tho), I was hoping some of the dinosaurs tell me :) So I had to see itch page (thanks for the hints!). And I'm happy to see more puch card games (and also without AI!) :)
Really clever! Great idea.
Its perfect for the theme! Really felt the simulation of using punch cards.
@jiri-hysek Yeah that makes sense since that's how the game worked until then. There is a little hint in game in the memos on the right of the machine (the pink one I think), but at this point in the game no one remembers them I guess (if even noticed in the first place). I'm glad the itch hints proved useful! Your game looks very nice, I'll make sure to check it out!
@nitesh I'm glad I got it right on this aspect, that was my main focus. I even think I should have went for a slightly simpler mini game so that I could have focused more on the machine itself. Thanks for the feedback!
