Cool concept. Control-wise, the Shift and F buttons are pointless since there's never any reason you wouldn't want to run or pick up.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD54 → When Will You Die?

You did a fantastic job with the atmosphere and level design. The audio and graphics fit the game perfectly. The game loop was fun but got a bit repetitive after a few days. Personally I would have liked arrow keys for movement.
Really nice job, well done!
I like the game and the idea, but here my feedback : - The camera doesn't work when you are in the middle of trees. - The level design really doesn't to recognize where you are and where is your home.
So first of all: thanks to everyone for playing and leaving a review :-)
@zenithstar Well - I wanted to have the F-Key in because the Player could oversee a medikit and he should not be able to collect by accident. The shift key I kept for one reason: once you are close to a mutant you might don't want to run. But I can absoutley understand that this feels kind of useless (I also questionned this for a long time during development).
@arachnid56 Thanks - but in regards of level design the fantastic job was mainly done by Synty ^^ - I just reused their assets here. I'm happy that you like the audio. While this is also not from me the game on intention is really sparse. But you are right - I should have added arrow-keys.
@taeghen Yes, the trees block a lot of sight. I also thought about removing them or working on the camera - but I decided to keep it how it is because it helps building up the feeling of "being lost. And actually it shouldn't be that much of an issue because there is no spawning point below trees. In regards of your second point: thats not intentional (Because I reused an existing map) - but I was hoping for that. But in order to mitigate this effect the game will provide you an indicator showing you the direction (but hides once you are close enough). But I can understand that those trees can build up a feeling of "the game is unfair". Because as a Player you have to expect that might one day a box spawns below a tree which would be terrible. And in case if you couldn't find the box then you could assume it was hidden below a tree (even if it wasn't - but there is no way for you to check). Haven't thought about that - but I should have. So thanks for pointing this out. Will keep that in mind for future games.
Cool prototype, liked the idea but there is so much room for improvement. Try adding side quests, a story or something as a purpose to follow, it gets repetitive and boring after some days.
@arthursenpai Thanks for the feedback. Well the purpose is to surive (may MediKit was also not the best wording - actually I always thought about changing it). But in the end it doesn't save the game from feeling repetive after some days. Therefor Mutants were introduced to push this back but ofc this also has its limits.
