This Sounds so interesting! But i have no Printer…. :(

Nice game, very polished and the screentop implementation worked great. I was about to write it off as too easy after getting through the first half unscathed, before rolling 1 for damage three times in a row and being forever a roll away from exploding. My only real nitpick is the rulesheet didn't have a summary at the top of the game's theme and how to play it, but that's pretty minor and it's impressive how clear all the rules were. Great job!

@meru You can play it digitally on Screentop --> https://screentop.gg/@BethMakesGames/InSpace

@fizzbark OMG that was some amazing luck getting through the first half so well, I guess it had to turn around and get some revenge on you after that 🤣 And thanks so much for the kind words and all, it means so much to me!

YES!!!! A reminder card of how to play the game is on the top of my post-jam to-do list, but I hadn't even considered recapping the theme as well, I like that! Thanks :D

It was a little hard to get the hang of in part because I've never played a game on screentop but also slightly confusing language being used in the instructions. That being said, once I did get the hang of both the screentop and the rules it was actually pretty fun and interesting! Managed to both explode and clear a game after that! Thanks a lot for the experience, it was a great jam entry!~

Oh wow, thank you so much for sticking with it and not only playing through once but twice, @sgtweirdo! I know that tabletop games without an actual video game implementation are a lot harder to get into and play (especially when the rules are written at the last minute like this 😅), and for you to take that much time to grasp and play it is super appreciated!

Congrats on beating it and thanks so much for the kind words :D

I lost on day 4 lol, I really like this concept and I might print this out and play it some more!

the game is very interesting, I liked it, the idea is good, continue at the same pace and you will become more professional

I had some issues with the instructions, I will just quicly list them, maybe they are helpful for you for some iteration: * I find the wording between damaged and destroyed a bit confusing, therefore I was at first not sure whether a damaged room still protects the reactor (but I think the rules state that clearly once you realize the difference between damaged and destroyed) * When should I reshuffle the threats? I just did it after every round * I almost missed that I can repair my ship in the repair and flip phase (and was very confused that it was named like this) I think this shouldn't be in the exceptions block but in the How to play section step (4) * In the online version it might be possible to miss that you can flip the instructions

But these things weren't really too much of an issue for me. It is very hard to communicate the rules for a tabletop game by text and even if you did it perfectly I would never be 100% certain if I do it correctly.

It was actually a really fun game after I got the hang of it! I had fun strategically matching the dices and managed to clear the game (at least to my rules ) Maybe it would have been cool if you get one additional enery dice after the REPAIR+FLIP and the game gets a bit more difficult in the second half. But still great work!

Wow, table games is so rare on Ludum, cool!

cataclysmicknight 2023-10-19 15:57

@oadt Thank you so much for the detailed feedback here! I was in a huge rush with the rules and I know they suffered for it, and having specific points of improvement and struggle is invaluable!

I also love the idea of gaining an extra die after the first half to allow for a more difficult second half of the game. It would also make sense for that "repair and flip" space to be like a planet or something where you can repair, get an additional energy die (maybe by way of saving people from the planet as you race past, but also some of them are capable of helping, so you get additional energy from them), and then race toward safety. That adds some cool theme vs just "Oh hey here's this random point in space where everything is okay in the middle of all the chaos!" 🤣

As for when to shuffle the threats, it's intended that you reshuffle them at the repair & flip spot. There are exactly enough cards to get you through each half without shuffling :D

And OMG the rule page flipping!!! For the longest time I actually had it in upside-down, and only after someone pointed out that the rules made little sense did I realize I messed that up 🤣🤣🤣

And thanks for the kind words, too! Having a fun core mechanic means that everything else can be polished up and improved 🥳

@themaydayman Thank you so much, that's a really awesome comment!!! If you happen to get it on Itch (just grab it for free there) you'll get an email when I update and improve it if you want to wait for it to be better before printing and playing. I kept the deck small though so it shouldn't be too much hassle if you have to update them :D

cataclysmicknight 2023-10-19 16:00

Thanks for saying so @dan-str! And @anper thank you too :D LOL I keep going into Ludum Dare like "Okay THIS time I'm gonna make something simpler so it doesn't have a big ol rulebook and people can quickly get into it" and then I don't 🤣

oadt 2023-10-19 16:33

@cataclysmicknight Glad you find my feedback useful! :) Very cool idea on adding some story based explanation to the repair and flip. If you create a postjam version of the game I will happily try it out!

And well, reshuffeling too often hopefully didn't change the game too much

I liked the game interesting gameplay
