Controls and mechanics are pretty straightforward and feel polished, although I didn't really feel the need to attack the enemy critters at all: you can just wait and move past the enemies, spending less essence. I missed having more levels and/or enemy types that required different approaches.
While I was playing I also thought of a small change that could bring an interesting twist. Being able to see the full level layout in advance might add a layer of strategy, having players plan for the best possible way to reach the exit.
Overall a good entry with potential to become even better. Nice job!
