I really liked the twist at the end!! Congrats on the game, the on ly thing I didn't liked was the player's hitbox but for the rest it was really good
@baconsenpaii Try pressing spacebar to get through the splash screens. I'll definitely be changing that later to make it any key until you get to the game. Also if you can, let me know if that doesn't fix it. That definitely shouldn't be happening. Thank you for trying!
@Enric Thanks for that! I wonder if you were able to get both endings or if you stopped after that one. ;) The hitbox was something I toyed with a bunch, but due to time constraints couldn't get quite right. I do plan to try to improve it in the post-jam though. Thank you for the feedback!
@shadow64 I got both very imaginative!!
@enric Awesome! Glad you felt like going back! I'm at work but I'll try to play your windows game later tonight. Thanks again for playing!
Good graphics!
Thanks, Kutase!!! I'll check out Break the System later tonight! Appreciate the feedback and congrats on finishing!
the twist end is so coool, and the secret end too! That's always really clever de play with gamer's instinct like that. It was really fun congratulation
I'll tell honeslty. At the first glance the game looked for me blend and very simple, the music in background was after some time a little bit annoying. But the first ending hooked and I saw this game from another angle. Then another 10 minutes later, after second ending, I realised that it is the most entertaining game I had in this Ludum Dare so far. I really love when developer makes such plotwists and manages to tell something with such small game, but the theme of this gamejam brought amount of this games to minimum. That's why I was very happy to find this gem.
But let's look step by step:
1) First of all - graphics. I see that you've put a lot of efford in graphics and it really pays of. It's very constistent and fairly detailed (especially in animation). You doing a great job here and keep it up. (5/5) 2) Sounds fitt perfectly into the style of the game, but main music in background for me was out of 8bit tune(yes, it's not some rule or something, but all graphics and sounds was so perfectly matched so it was so obvious to expect the 8bit-core music in the background, but it's only my point of view, nothing more). And I don't have any problems with looping music but this melody was screaming to me that it is 3-4 seconds loop and I couldn't unhear this. That's why it is 4/5.
The game was very cool overall and very funny. I think that you made a perfect take on the theme and made something very innovative (yes, I hear some Undertale vibes, but i think that you made this in a different own way) Thank you for the experience and never stop making games! You definitely have developed a talent.
@Ravengar Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the ending(s)! I almost didn't have time to put the secret end in, but I stayed up until about 4:00 AM the night before getting up for work at 6:45 AM (couldn't work on it the last day because of my job) just to make sure it made it. Sounds like it was worth it! Thank you again and congrats on Born to Jump!
@Maroovan I plan to play Placeholder as soon as I get a second - helps that it's HTML5, so hopefully in the next few hours I'll sneak some time in. :) I really appreciate the honest feedback and couldn't agree with your criticism regarding the music more! I wrote the initial track and told my friends that I should redo it with Fami-Tracker for the exact reason you said - it should really be a chiptune to match the style. The same goes for the loop - definitely shorter than I would like. Both choices came from just wanting to make sure I finished in time but I'll definitely try to do some post jam music that's not so repetitive and takes advantage of some chiptune style. :)
Thank you for all of the kind words about the game! I really appreciate that you let me know I was able to change your mind about it as you played and that you liked it so much! That's awesome. Makes me very happy to know that people dig it since I almost didn't make anything this time.
Take care, congrats on finishing, and I look forward to playing Placeholder later today!
I'm gonna have to agree with Maroovan, before I got to the ending the first time, I found it a bit monotonous. But then I got to the ending! Yours is the first game to actually make me laugh so far.
It's a good game if you stick with it until the ending. My only idea to get less patient players to stick with it (even though it's short enough that it shouldn't be a problem) is to make the numbers made with boxes count down (e.g. 9, 8, 7, 6...) instead of count up, to give the player a sense of when it will end.
Overall, enjoyable!
@Huntclaw Thank you so much!!! I really appreciate the feedback. I do have one request. Do you think you could edit your comment to be a little more vague. I doubt anyone will read it before they play, but (just in case) I'd hate to ruin anything for other players.
Thank you again for the feedback and I'm really glad you enjoyed it so much. I like your idea about counting down, too.
I look forward to playing your entry and thanks again!
@shadow64 Oops, good point! I think I made it vague enough? Let me know if this is good!
You're most welcome!
@huntclaw That is perfect! It keeps the general notes without giving too much away. I really appreciate the help with that and I'm sorry I had to ask since everything you said was very complimentary! Haha. "PLEASE DELETE THE NICE THINGS YOU SAID!" :p
But seriously, thank you! I should be able to get to Clod's Quest tonight! :)
@shadow64 lol, you got to read it, that's what's important. :D I didn't even think about it until you said something, so good thing you did!
Yay!
i played it for both endings..... i wasnt disappointed lol great job
@zayah0-0 Thank you! I'm really happy that so many people have decided to go for the second round. I wasn't sure they would, but so far it sounds like pretty much everyone has. Woo hoo! I enjoyed playing Too Close. Hope to see you in the next LD! Take care.
This game gave me the feeeeels :'( Nice work!
Awesome game. I was pleasantly suprised with the overall mood of the game. Hope you develop a post jam version for this!
Really good game, 5 starts across the board. Great to see that it turned out how you wanted it to, quite rare to see actually. I was quite sad at the first ending, but was very happy at the end of the second ending.
@malero Thank you very much! I appreciate that.
@Zicboy Thank you! I do have some ideas for a post-jam version. Hopefully enough people are interested and I'll see what I can do! Thanks!
@lozzadawg Thank you very much for this feedback! I'm glad that the second ending turned things around for ya. :)
