Nice little platformer with some neat light/shadow play. Good job! I like the concept of the fire!

a perfect introduction. good sound . not enough training - I have not found how to jump :(

bloodjohn 2016-08-29 19:27

J - jump. Why not W ?!

Feel stupid. I had to read the description to the game. Sorry, long day at work :) Good find - document progress burning torches. You mark uncharted territory, turning it in his.

Thanks for the feedback, it really was a custom question my place leap in J, and also failed to have a tutorial in the game.
Home will adapt to jump W and if time up the new version

I like the idea of being dependent on the strength of your fire with your movement. It gives a platformer a new complexity. For a platformer it was a bit too slow for me, but you could speed up the movement but the fire will lose more strength with higher speeds and restricting your movement.

Alternativly you could go more into the puzzle segment and make the level smaller, keep the speed and make more puzzles about the fire (spots that need light to open a door...)

Okay the weird jump and light buttons put aside. This game reminds me of my first ludum dare game mixed with some dark soulish lore. A bit too simple tho for my likings. I enjoyed the music, but the art was well programmer art if I had to guess :)

Good game concept with awesome music. Puzzle game are good as the level goes. I think you can increase the speed of player movement or reduce level size to make it more interesting. Level design is good i almost reached 8% when i just reached the another fire and saved. It is good, you can also add some smoothness to player movement, jump and animation.

Good simple projects, art aside, the music and story was great and you did a good use from the theme. Good entry. ( you don't need the .pdb files to play the game so you can remove them from your folder).

Immediately as i launched the game, i was drawn in be the atmosphere created by the music and sound effects. The dark feel of the cave and the sole light provided by the fire made for a engaging feel to the game.

The game not having a tutorial or a "buttons" screen made the game quite hard to play at first. Even if you didn't have the time to add those elements, making the jump button a more intuitive button like the "space" or "w" button would have been a better choice than "j".

The gameplay itself was simple and easy to understand. Exploring and lighting torches was cool. What made the game frustrating was since you had a vertical element to the game and everything was so dark i didn't know what gaps would lead to new areas or kill me. As well as combined with a slightly clunky jump it made platforming quite artificially difficult.

Otherwise the concept was very cool, good job!

jump on J, really? like, REALLY?
like the art and animation, and good music. try working a bit more on the mechanincs tho.

I really like the atmosphere and the music is fitting. I'd agree with others that J being jump was an odd choice.

I liek games with message, so you have my Goog Job ! :D improve it! I owuld like too see more!

niksorvari 2016-08-31 03:51

good atmosphere, although slow pacing. Like others have said, add some more mechanics that risk your flame life like sprinting or something.

p.s. it took me a second to understand the hint for opening the door lol nice one

mr-chelnoque 2016-08-31 12:15

I like how you managed to put some message and (through text and overall atmosphere) and graphics are actually fine (for me) but a bunch of tiny details greatly decreases fun
- inconventional controls;
- movement is too slow and animation doesn't fit current speed;
- Block and hole you have to fill to open the door have different size, so it's not clear what you should do;
- Arrow points down, so, again, it's not clear if it's you or block are supposed to go down;
- No indication of fall danger and hard to see if there are floor in the hole;
- Why torch refills gradually? Why cant it become 100% instantly near the fire? Also, it will be better with some effects to attract player's attention and show that he's recharging; little fire whoosh will suffice.

Those are little and (probably) are easy to fix, so still well done!

Wish the movement was a tad faster. The music really fit the atmosphere, and the fire animations were amazing!

Good job.
