LD35 — Shapeshift

Postmortem Hero by sistinedisco 2016-04-20T00:47:00

@jcmonkey: This game was made with RPG Maker VX Ace, an engine that has a lot of standard RPG mechanics and systems built in. It also provides some default artwork and audio to use. This makes it a lot easier to build a playable game quickly, but it also means that games made with this engine can look/feel very similar. I tried my best to make something entertaining in spite of these restrictions, though!

LD37 — One room

The Failures Of Felix by QuinnandWin 2016-12-14T04:34:00

I thought the overall mood in this game was fantastic but that the actual game elements were lacking.

In the Asteroids minigame, it said I had to survive for 60 seconds but nothing actually happened at the one minute mark. The game just went on indefinitely. In the Donkey Kong minigame, the controls felt like the character was floating and moved very slowly, which is an issue in a minigame all about precise timing and control. I also couldn't get the Mouse Maze minigame to work at all. It just kept flashing back and forth between the title screen and the start of the game.

There also didn't seem to be any correlation between completing the minigames and preventing the nightmare from coming through the window (which I assumed was the main goal of the game from the description). It feels kind of futile playing the clone games if they have no impact at all on the main game.

However, like I mentioned before, the atmosphere was really well executed! The artwork was beautiful and I liked how each minigame had a different, distinct look. Audio was great as well!

Really liked the atmosphere in this game! The visuals (especially the lighting) and audio were fantastic and little details (like viking emojis and how the customers would get up and dance after a while) added a humorous touch (:

My main issue was that the wasn't a way to put down a drink once you've picked it up. Sometimes I would pick up a drink for a customer only for them to get angry and leave right at that moment, with no other customers ordering a drink of that color. This meant I had to either give an incorrect drink to a customer so I could complete other orders or just stand around until somebody wanted that particular color of drink, which wasted time. Despite this, I still thought it was a great game overall though!

Last Wights by JoeProgram 2016-12-16T05:05:00

My favorite game I've played so far! This is such a clever concept! So simple but so effective and fun! I also liked how the rooms would look more and more chaotic as you progressed through the levels.

My only complaint was that the sound effects were a bit harsh in comparison to the gentle ukulele music (which I really liked and thought set an interesting mood since you wouldn't expect a game about putting souls to rest to have that kind of soundtrack).

Sleeper's Curse by scorched 2016-12-14T01:47:00

I wasn't really sure what the objective of this game was other than to collect the items scattered around the house. On one of my playthroughs, I made it to the room with the pentagram and I assumed that the items I collected were meant to be sacrificed here (since the room's only exit was blocked by the tentacles) but when I placed the items on the circle nothing happened? The only option was to stand around and wait for the tentacles to kill me, which was a pretty frequent occurrence for me in the game. I would go into a room to get an item only to have the exit get blocked off, forcing me to just wait until I died to start the game over again with my inventory empty.

However, the graphics looked great and the audio really set the mood!

Thanks to everybody who has played so far and left comments!

@PickleCrew, @Xwilarg: I agree that there should've been more narrative content! I originally planned to include a lot more, like little story moments in between tasks that would build up the rogue AI story and funny responses from the user when you input a wrong answer, but I ran out of time. Hoping to fix that in the future!

@misaghDroid: It's fine if you don't like what I made but you don't have to be an asshole about it. Just leave some constructive criticism like everyone else.
